Captain Voorheis was graduated from Watkins Glen Central High School in 1963 and the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1967 with a Bachelor's and an Ensign 's commission in the US.. Navy. In fuly1967 he reported to USS LITTLE ROCK ICLG-41 homeported in Gaeta, Italy as SIXTH FLEET Flagship, serving as a Deck Division Officer and Assistant Navigator. In December 1968, he was assigned to BARNEYIDDG-61, where he served as First Lieutenant and An ti-Submarine Warfare Officer. From 1970 to 1972, Captain f,,s I Voorheis attended post graduate school at the University of Washington, receiving a Master of Science Degreein.PhysicailfOCf?f1119gf3P17Y' During Captain Voorheis's next sea tours he served as Damage Con trol Assistant on USS HS Main Propulsion Assistant assigned to the staff of the Commander-in-Chief US. Atlan ticiFlefetIafs'a.myerniberfofrtheitNuclear Propulsion Examining Board. Captain Voorheis served as Chief Engineer on USS ENTERPRISE ICVN-651 from September 1980 to August 1983. He commanded USS C ONOLL YIDD-9792 from April 1984 to May 1986. He then completed a tour ashore as Senior Member of the Nuclear Propulsion Mobile Training Team on the staff of Commander, Naval Surface Force, US. Atlantic Fleet. Captain Voorheis commanded USS VIRGINIA ICGN-381 from jan uary 1988 to May 1991. He is now assigned as the Head of the Propulsion Examining Board in Norfolk, VA. Captain Voorheis is married to the former Margaret Ann Love, da ugh ter of Dr. and Mrs. Tj. Love of Watkins Glen, New York. They have two children, a married daughter Danielle, and a son, jonathan.
