Captain Voorheis was graduated from Watkins Glen Central High School in 1963 and the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1967 with a Bachelor's Degree and an Ensign's commission in the U.S. Navy. In july 1967 he reported to USS LITTLE ROCK ICLG-41, homeported in Gaeta, Italy as SIXTH FLEET Flagship, serving as a Deck Division OfHcer and Assistant Navigator. In December 1968, he was assigned to USS BARNEY IDDG-62, where he served as First Lieutenant and An ti-Submarine Warfare OfHcer. From 1970 to 1972, Captain Voorheis attended post graduate school at the University of Washington, receiving a Master of Science Degree in Physical Oceanography. During Captain Voorheis'next sea tours he served as Damage Control Assistant on USS BAINBRIDGE ICGN-252 and then as Main Propulsion Assistant on the commissioning crew of USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER ICVN-692. From 1978-1980, Captain Voorheis was assigned to the staff of the Commander-in-Chief U.S. Atlantic Fleet as a member of the Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board. Captain Voorheis served as Chief Engineer on USS ENTERPRISE ICVN-652 from September 1980 to August 1983. He commanded USS CONOLLY IDD-9791 from April 1984 to May 1986. He then completed a tour ashore as Senior Mem ber of the Nuclear Propulsion Mobile Training Team on the staff of Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. Captain Voorheis assumed command of USS VIRGINIA ICGN-382 in january 1988. VIRGINIA deployed to the Mediterranean from May 1989 to November 1989. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. I Captain Voorheis is married to the former Margaret Ann Love, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Tj. Love of Watkins Glen, New York. They have two children: a da ugh ter Danielle, and a son, jonathan. They make their home in Virginia Beach, Wrginia. ' M50

After commissioning and Nuclear Power Training, he reported to USS SOUTH CAROLINA KCGN-37j in February 1975. He then reported to the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Idaho Falls, Idaho for two years of instructor duty. After attend- ing Department Head School in Newport, Rhode Island, he served as Weapons OfHcer in USS I OHN KING IDDG-32 for two years and then as Electrical Officer in USS NIMI TZ KCVN-681 from 1982 to 1985. He then served a tour of duty from 1985 to 1988 as a mem ber of the Nuclear Propulsion Examining board on the staff of the Com- mander in Chief US. PaciHc Fleet. His next command is as a mem- ber of the Nuclear Power Mobile Training Team. Commander Chapman is married to the former Susan Green of Fairfax, Virginia. They and their children reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
