THE LATIN CLUB The purpose of the Latin Club is to pro- mote a further interest in the study of not only the language, but also the Roman civilization. Projects this year have been a report from each member on some phase of Roman life. We have had several Latin spelling bees and a few translations. Through stories, myths, reports, and dis- cussions we have learned much of the ancient Romans including the fact that the Roman civilization at its heighth was just as high, if not higher than our own. As hard as it may seem to believe, we learned that they had plastic surgery, brain surgery, and medical instruments that we did not develop until this century. Two members of this club, Joyce Beasley and Roger Keenoy, have distinguished them- selves in the National Latin Examinations by winning medals for their high proficiency. Roger won a medal both his first and second year. Joyce won her medal her first year. lt is a policy of the Association for the Promo- tion of the Study of Latin to award a trophy to the school winning three medals in one year or in consecutive years. We are very proud of our trophy which may be seen in the trophy case. The Latin students will take part in another National Latin Examination on the 3lst of March. Alfred Gregg YY.-V Barbara Kinsella Leroy Carroll ,,Y,V A glimpse into the art room during club period reveals groups of students busily work- ing on different creative projects according to their interests and abilities. During a typical club meeting, some members may be painting, others may be glazing ceramic figurines for firing in the kiln, a large group may be work- ing on linoleum block prints, cutting and printing monograms and designs, designs are being burned into wood by still other students, and someone might be loading the kiln for firing. In this way the members have a chance to discover and express their artistic abilities President Vice-President Secretary Treasurer which is the main purpose of the Art Club. Another important purpose is to give the members a chance to work on group projects which will benefit the whole school. Some of these projects were the decorations for dances. Christmas decorations for the cafeteria and signs with blessings for the cafeteria tables. The float entered in the Beach Bowl parade pleased all the members by winning third prize for the most unusual float. The Art Club has also helped to publicize school events and activities by making posters and signs.
