Mrs. Heller, you've always given us support when it was needed. You've taught us more than can be expressed here--not only about nursing, but also about life in general. W As our class sponsor, you have been a personal friend to each of us. We appreciate all the under- standing you so graciously gave. We have felt free to discuss anything at all with you, because you seemed interested. Remember our visits to your home? And that crazy mixed-up shower? The list could go on and on, couldn't it? The stretch of the years is now long past Since I was your baby girl, The years when you mended a broken doll Or smoothed down a straying curl. To-day I'm a nurse--it seems but a dream I can hardly believe that it's true. My training is done--I have come to the end And my first grateful thought is, of you. You, my father, who helped me so much on the way: You whose love and whose faith was so strong, Yours the kindness, the courage, the praise that was there In times when the way seemed so long. And mother, I know I could never have won If your love hadn't helped me along. I who was always so weak on the way You who were ever so strong. Your love and your help, and your kindly praise These followed me through the years. A million thanks well up from my heart, God bless you--your joy and your tears. aff! .f ' ggi Q 5 r i -'- ' 4 9' , '11 ,I .. 1' . .n4f. ' - ini: gag-.5 - 1 '. 1! -, . Keeping Together Is Success Miss Elliott presents Miss Mary Coates, district ad- visor for coming year, with a copy of the hand- book. District IX, Student Nurses' Association held its first meeting in the fall of 1960. An Executive Board, com- posed of six student members, one elected advisor and two representatives from the District Graduate organiza- tion, is elected annually in the spring. Membership consists of students from Virginia Baptist and Lynchburg General Hospitals. Delegates represent District IX at National and State Conventions and State Executive Board meetings. Meetings are held bi-monthly with programs to aid in the development of the student nurse as an individual and as a member of a group. It tends to provide-a more Luiified spirit among student nurses and to promote pro- fessional and social unity within the district. It en- courages high educational and professional standards and provides opportunity for exchange of ideas with students and graduate professional nursing organizations. Quiet Meditation The Baptist Student Union not only provides many opporttmities for fun and fellowship with other college students at local cook-outs, hikes, and retreats and at State BSU meetings, but it also made possible discussions on pertinent issues of our time. Vesper Services were started and these often being outdoors seemed to give students a spiritual lift. The main project of the year was to raise sufficient funds to help send BSU'ers of Virginia who were selected to serve in home and foreign fields as student summer missionaries. Through much effort our goal of S150 was met. B.S.U. Provides ft ll -fx 5 fs 39' m uw Spiritual Lift Q ,, ,, 9155 in Miss Mary Ann Mattox, BSU Director Rev.
