BASKETBALL OF 1946 AND 1947 Although Viper Basketball Squad didn't start off the season with a bang, the boys ended up with a pre-tty good team. The arrival of two former students, Robert Trent and Steuben Cain, who were discharged from the Army, strengthened the team. These two boys played on Viper's team when they Won the District Tournament in 1944. The first team consisted of the following boys: Steuben Cain, the Captain of the team, who could al- ways be relied on to put up a good fight. He is a good of- fensive player. Crawford Rowell is a remarkably fast boy to consider that he is 6 feet, 356 inches tall. He could always be rcounted on to get his part of the points when the team needed them most. Dana Whittaker, the tall center, did most of the scoring for the Viper team. He is 6 feet, 3 inches tall, and he had a shot against which the opposite team could not guard. Dana is a good player in any position. Eugene Cain, a guard, is small but he makes the boys on the opposite team think he is as big or bigger than they are. Eugene islfast and he is a good ball player. Harvey Combs is an all-round good player who is very dangerous when he is hitting a one-handed shot-and he hits a big part of the time. Robert Trent, a guard, gets his share of the points. H6 collects most of them in a peculiar long-one-handed shot. Robert is an excellent player. Kenny Brashear is the center. He is very handy to have around.. He is a go-od rebound man, who can be counted on. Dennis Pratt, a guard, collects quite a number of points by a tricky onefhanded shot. Manual Whittaker, who saw quite a bit of action this year, is a game player, and heiputs up aswell fight. Mervin Combs, a guard, is very accurate in his shooting. The Viper team played some good and thrilling ball games this season, and they came out on the good end in
