If man would ever pass to God... ” Thomas Parnell 8 Principal’s Message This school year (1966-67) marks the beginning of a new era in the history of Vinton High School. It is with great pride that I write this message in the first edition of the Souvenir issued from our new high school. I am happy that our students have the op- portunity of attending a new, modern, and well- equipped school. I hope that you will make the most of the op- portunities offered you and get the education that you deserve. Congratulations to the Souvenir Staff and sponsors for the first treasured memories of the new school. 9 Secretary Mrs. Haggard attends to her duties as secretary of the school. She is an experienced and helpful worker who deserves appreciation from all the students of Vinton High for a job well done. P.T.A. President Mr. Van Metre has graciously given the Vinton High School a good deal of his time in service as P.T.A. president. His active part has contributed to the effectiveness of this area of the school ac- tivities. He has played foot- ball for 4 years, lettering his. Junior and Senior years. In his Junior year he received the Most Improved Player and Scholastic awards. As a Senior he received the Ronnie Courville Memorial Trophy. Ricky’s other activities include Beta Club and Student Council, and he is an honor roll student. Congratulations, Ricky! Lion Belle The girl selected as the favorite of the football team for this year is Marsha Courville. Marsha has served as Co-captain of Lionettes this year and has been in Pep Squad two previous years. Marsha has a warm and pleas- ing personality and seems to enjoy her part as a member of the Lion- ettes. She is respected by the girls in the squad as well as her fellow classmates. It is quite an honor to be the choice of our football team—and to you, Marsha, we say ...Congrat ulations. She is a Member of the Drama Club and FHA. A well known figure on the VHS campus is RICKY ISTRE. His outstanding athletic ability has gained him many awards. This year Ricky serves as Vice President of the Student Council and is a member of the Beta Club. Needless to say, he is the most popular boy at Vinton High this year. As head cheerleader this year, CHARLENE COPPELS, has supported the school in many ways. Her outstanding ability to activate the school spirit has won for her, Class Favorite . Charlene has been on the Annual Staff for 3 years. She is also a member of the Beta Club and the Student Council. Aside from leading the school in cheers, CAROL ISTRE, a Junior, also partici- pated in many clubs. Included in the organizations were the Annual Staff, Beta Club, and FTA. Carol was also on list of the top eight girls vying for Most Beautiful . 30 In 1967 Throughout her four years of high school, MEREDITH ANDING has proven to be indispensable to the music department. She is also sec- retary-treasurer of the high school Student Council and a member of the Beta Club. Meredith was voted Most Intelligent for 1967. LIONEL ALLEMOND, a Junior, has been very busy this year editing the school newspaper, serving as presi- dent of Drama Club, and let- tering in football. Lionel also participated in the McNeese Music Rally where he was a member of the boy's quartet as well as a tenor soloist. In years to come, PAT THERIOT will be remembered for her hard work as editor of the 1967 yearbook. Although this was a time consuming job, she was able to partici- pate in the Beta Club, Girl's Trio, and FHA. TIMMY MC CREARY, as president of the Student Coun- cil, sets an example of a student with high esteem for his fellow students. Not only is Timmy scho- lastically able, but he also lettered in football this year.
