DEDICATION The 1958 Annual staff proudly dedicates the new edition of the Souvenir to Ted Lyons, one of Vinton High's best known former students. Mr. Lyons was graduated from Vinton High in 1918. He has always been an athlete. However, baseball has been his favorite. Mr. Lyons' baseball honors have been numer- ous. In 1956 he was elected to Baseball's Hall of Fame. On May 24, 1928, Ted pitched a 21 inning game. Three years earlier, on August 21, 1926, Ted threw a no-hitter against the Boston Red Sox. In his active playing career, Mr. Lyons played 21 seasons with the Chicago White Sox. His record with the White Sox was 260 victories against 230 losses. In 1925 and '27 he tied for the most wins in the American League. He held the best-earned run average in 1942 with a 2.10 aver- age. Among his other activities have been active duty with the U. S. Marine Corps, manager of the Chicago White Sox, coach for the Detroit Tigers and coach for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Presently, Mr. Lyons is a scout for the Chicago White Sox in the Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma area.

DR. A. H. FOREMAN With many pleasant memories the students of Vinton High pause to honor Dr. A. H. Foreman. Dr. Foreman was a Vinton physician for 47 years. Dr. Foreman, a native of New Orleans, was graduated from Tulane Medi- cal School in 1898. He held membership in numerous college and professional organizations. Some of which are a charter member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Tulane, The American Medical Association and the Seventh Dis- trict Medical Society. Dr. Foreman was past President of the Seventh District Medical Association.
