When, in 1923, she began teaching in Vinton, she had already taught for fifteen years at other schools. For thirty years, she taught the primary grades at Vinton. During those thirty years, she missed only eleven days of school. When she resigned in 1953, she refused to accept any special recognition for her long service and brilliant record. Mrs. Hiter started many young citizens on the most important years of their lives, their school days. We, and hundreds of oth- ers, appreciate and love her more than she will ever realize.
