We hope that in years to come you will treasure each page of this book and remember the faculty, student body, and citizens who worked so diligently with us to make this book possible. A newspaper article written just after the death of Mr. S. J. Welsh described him as an outstanding man of the community and a long-time leader in the field of education. Complimentary words, but cold ones. They tell nothing of the subject's mod- esty about his success, or his ability to put himself in the place of others, and through understanding, to help them. The words fail to mention his frank sin- cerity, which gained for him an undying respect from students and friends alike. So we dedicate this annual, in memory of the late Mr. S. J. Welsh, president of Calcasieu Parish School Board.
