I X. . , Y 1 I ' Sensor Class Prophecy One fine summer day as I sat musing in my rocking chair I began to th1nk about my childhood ard to wonder what had happened to my long ago classmates R1ght then and there I dec1ded to set out for my old home and locate them I reached for my cane and my faithful old dog to lead the way You see one can't be too care ful when one 1S 104 years young I chartered a plane and flew back to the Shrpley Community It't qu1te amazmg what 86 years w1ll do to a commumty' I collected my lnformation as to the location of their homes and set out to find the fust person on my l1st, that belng Joann Lyon I had learned that she l1ved ln Tim Buck Too and so I took my plane there Upon askrng around I learned that Joann was dead and they showed me her grave On the stone was this inscription Here l1es Joann Lyon 1937 to , who dled whxle nursing the citizens of the county through 15 years of Malarla and Typhord She gave up so much to come to us and try to cure our aches and pa1ns that we have erected a hospltal in her memory and bearing her name As I sadly left her grave, I felt her very near and knew that she was sharing w1th me the mem or1es we so long ago had started Next I went to a l1ttle town 1n Connectlcut where Jams Groomes had moved Upon my arrival, I learned she, too, had passed on Th1s was a blow as she seemed always so young Iv1s1ted her restmg place and read this Jams Groomes 1938 to This loving teacher fought for what she knew the students of th1s community should have for the1r preparanon in l1fe Jams never marr1ed as she was so very t1ed up 1n her career of teachlng Always Uymg to frnd new and better methods and movlng from school to school helplng those 1n need Somehow I began to feel that my t1me was soon to come, so I hurried on my way, as I st1ll had many of my friends to find In Montana, I learned now, w1th great drsmay, that Donald Apland had passed on only recently The townspeople had erected a stone bearlng th1s ep1taph Donald Apland 1938 to loved by all because of h1s generos1ty and human klndness Th1s man SlgI11f1SS the communlty Splflt so lacklng before he came 1nto our m1dst He w1ll always be remembered for h1S work in forming the many CIVIC OfgaH1ZatlOl1S so necessary for the survival of any habitation Sorrowfully I realized that three of my life long friends had now become memories and symbols to the1r past I moved next to New Mexlco where to my great Joy I found Larry Barker, very much al1ve and krckrng However he was sure he'd not llve long so he d already had h1s head stone lnscrlbed and thrs IS what he sard Here l1es Larry Barker 1938 to He loved the outdoors and all sports He w1ll long be remembered for h1s brlllxant Basketball Ablllties and his great enjoyment of f1sh1ng and huntlng He explained that he wlshed the inscnption to reveal his true nature I asked that another sentence be added So w1th h1s consent th1s add1t1on was made Hrs frrendly sm1le and sh1n1ng countenance will long be remembered by those who knew h1m best From New Mexlco I went to Australla where I was lnformed that Janet Donald had been krlled rn an uprlslng of the kangaroos 1n early l1fe I v1s1ted her restlng place and read th1s Janet Donald 1937 to Th1s young girl gave much to th1s world as she formed the f1rst Soc1ety for the Preservat1on of the Human Race The unusual clrcumstances surrounding her death are closely velled ln secrecy and I never learned the causes Now I had two more v1s1ts to make and wlshed desperately that my last two classmates were strll al1ve I arrrved ln Japan where Mildred Murrell had been statloned ln servlce and learned this Mlss Mildred Murrell IS no longer with us as she dled ln the line of duty She was mess sergeant and had been trampled to death by a group of hungry Wacs Greatly d1sheartened I arrlved ln Baden Baden Germany 1n search of Dick Sargent Dick had Qecome a sc1ent1st and was engaged rn secret research To my sad heart th1s response came to my questrons Och' Mine Himell' Dat great man just blew himself up one day wh1le experlment mg Ins epltaph was very slmple Drck Sargent 1938 to Th1s great sc1ent1st found that the world was searchrng for but we never learned what It was as he died of shock when he found Slowly I returned to my home feellng greatly bereaved when I felt someone shaking me by the houlders and saying, Pam It s trme to go to B1ology class It seems I d fallen asleep and had dreamed the whole ep1sode and I certainly was relreved as I hadn t had a chance to travel around the world yet' I 0 I A - 0 . .
