It has always been the goal of the annual staffs of the past to pro- duce a. bigger and better annual. Although there aren't actually as many pages this year as there were in last year's annual, the staff has tried to make up for this in quality. With the help of represen- tatives of Semco Color Press, the supervision and co-sponsorship of Mr. W. F. Mills and Mr. V. E. Muncy, the hnancial backing of the Student Council, and the cooperation of the general student body, this has been made possible. This, the 1954 annual, ls proudly presented for your approval. ANNUAL STAFF iff 5: ,J - df so U 1 A STUDENT COUNCIL Under the direction of President Bob Monroe, the super- vision of Mr. Muncy. their sponsor, and with the help of Mr. Mills, their co-sponsor, the Vinita High School Student Coun- cil of 1953 has done a very capable job. DIVERSIHED OCCUPATIONS The Diversified Occupations trainee spends one half day in school and one half day as a trainee on a job in a downtown businessestablishment. At school, the trainee spends two hours per day studying about his job, and the remainder of his day at school is spent studying regular school subjects. The Diversified Occupations trainee completes all of his required subjects such as English, History, etc., and graduates from high school along with the rest. of his classmates. On the job, the trainee spends a minimum of fif- teen hours per week learning a trade or occupation and gaining some experience, which will enable him to continue working full time in his chosen held upon graduation from high school. The trainee receives apprentice pay for all of his time spent on the job. This money has, in a number of instances, made it pmsible for the trainee to hnish his high school education. 4 Eilir A I Qfiv' KAI rs f , ii., -. ag- 1 , I ax I, 'FQQA1 V ? The objective of the Vinita Chapter of the Future Teachers of America is to provide ,the 37 charter members with specific information about the held of teaching and to give the students an opportunity to participate in actual classroom experience. This is accomplished by having the members substitute and serve as playground supervisors during P.T.A. meetings at the grade schools. A delegation attended the State Oklahoma Education Association Convention at Oklahoma City in October and the District Convention at Tulsa in March. Vinita.'s Chapter has four Jr. 0.E.A. members. We feel Vinita. had a very satisfactory season. The boys had had no experience with the short punt formation used this year. They had not won a game last year and as a result had lost confidence in their ability to win, but as the season progressed they gained ex- perience and with that experience they gained their confidence. As the season progressed they developed into quite a strong team. There was a. definite improvement in their play from game to game. In the eyes of the coaches and fans the 1953 football team had a very successful season. Coach Lyle Yarborough, Asst Coach Bogner Stubbs.
