SETTI G THE P.A.C.E. .A.C.E. fPlano Academic Creative Educa- tionj is, formally, an elective by invita- tion, taught fourth period daily by Lynde Walkup, Becky Brown, and Linda Buteyn. Con- trary to popular belief, straight A's are not re- quired for admission to the P.A.C.E. program, but the students are chosen by I.Q. level, citizen- ship grades, and teacher recommendation. Also known as Humanities, the course deals with histo- ry, art, music, philosophy, and numerous other fields. P.A.C.E. is technically a two-year course, open to both freshmen and sophomores. All P.A.C.E. students participate in various projects, activities, book studies, and three-day mini-classes. The mini-courses have to do with psychology, photography, and philosophy, to name a few areas. This year's students created skits depicting the Crusades and held their annual egg drop, in addition to other special events. The Humanities class deals largely with cre- ativity and leadership qualities. It's not a tradi- tional class, said Ms. Walkup, There,s really not much of an established curriculum. Each stu- dent works at his or her own pace. Surprise, Mrs. Buteyn!
