THE BACKBO E OF 0 R COU TRY Future Farmers Of America he future lies in their hands. FFA, another successful Vines organization, was busy participating in many activities this year. On October 11, the F FA students took part in the Ammie Wilson Heritage Day celebration. The Vines students also constructed a float for the Plano Christmas parade that honored all future farmers in Plano. Each member of FFA raised an animal throughout the year. In March, the group sold the animals that they raised that year. Because of Mr. Wyatt's excellent training, all members were a success at the sale. This year's officers included: President, Chris Allman, Vice President, Will Dasmondg Secretary, Leslie Pipes, Treasurer, Brad Perrin, Representative, David Johnson, Sentinel, Todd Rainwater, Student Advisor, Lonnie Strauser. Chris Allman and Leslie Pipes went to an officer's leadership training. SETTI G THE P.A.C.E. .A.C.E. fPlano Academic Creative Educa- tionj is, formally, an elective by invita- tion, taught fourth period daily by Lynde Walkup, Becky Brown, and Linda Buteyn. Con- trary to popular belief, straight A's are not re- quired for admission to the P.A.C.E. program, but the students are chosen by I.Q. level, citizen- ship grades, and teacher recommendation. Also known as Humanities, the course deals with histo- ry, art, music, philosophy, and numerous other fields. P.A.C.E. is technically a two-year course, open to both freshmen and sophomores. All P.A.C.E. students participate in various projects, activities, book studies, and three-day mini-classes. The mini-courses have to do with psychology, photography, and philosophy, to name a few areas. This year's students created skits depicting the Crusades and held their annual egg drop, in addition to other special events. The Humanities class deals largely with cre- ativity and leadership qualities. It's not a tradi- tional class, said Ms. Walkup, There,s really not much of an established curriculum. Each stu- dent works at his or her own pace. Surprise, Mrs. Buteyn!
