ou've waited 1 6 years for this day. You took weeks of driver's education, practiced driving, and got your permit all for this day. Your 16th birthday. First you make an ap' pointment after waiting in a line the size of Manhattan, then you wait for the appointment, and, before you know it, it's time. As your wait in line to take the road test, you become nervous and certain questions race through your mind: Will I get a cool trooper? What if I knock over a parallel parking pole? Who invented liquid soap and why? Then you pull up and hand the trooper your papers and permit. l-le checks the car and you thank the stars above you hit the right switch for the lights. Next the policeman-lookf ing trooper gets in your car. ff-le who just happens to be wearing a lethal weapon and a big badgel explains the concept of the test which you feel if written down might just as well be in Chinese, and you take off. First comes the parallel park- ing Cnaturally the hardest part of the test first offl, and then you drive around a few streets, make a few turns, and back up in a straight line 50 feet.
