TEACHERS FUR TEN: BETTY DUKE s. Duke is just one of several Teachers ThaT has been Teaching aT Vines High School since iTs open in 4976, and she says she's glad To be here. Back in 4976, The Plano inde- pendenT School DisTricT was looking for a LaTin Teacher To Teach aT The new Vines High School, and Ms. Duke, who Then TaughT in lVlcKinney, wanTed To be The one They found. Because of The excellenT repuTaTion of The P.l.S.D. proceeding iT, Ms. Duke arranged an inTerview and, wiThin one week, had been hired as The new LaTin Teacher of Vines. Things aT Vines are now much differenT Than when The school firsT opened. lVls. Duke explained ThaT The sTudenTs have changed a greaT deal and have been much nicer The pasT few years Than in The beginning. The sTudenTs also show much more school spiriT. ln The firsT few years, kids TreaTed Vines as more of a sTepping sTone To The Senior High, buT lVlrs. Duke parTicipaTes in one of The fads of Tele- phone-booTh-sTuffing. now The people parTicipaTe in school acTiviTies and exhibiT pride by Taking care of Their school. One such example is The way The sTudenTs Take pride in The appearance of Vines. For years, vandalism hasn'T been a problem, and This year The sTudenTs have been keeping The cafeferia cleaner aTTer lunch and hallways clear of Trash afTer school. Vines is unique and special To Ms. Duke because of The sTudenTs. Vines sTudenTs always score The highesT on TABS TesTing given To The freshman class. Vines also has one of The highesT aTTendance re- cords in The area showing ThaT sTudenTs are willing To learn and appreciaTe Vines being here To Teach Them. For The pasT Ten years, Vines has been here wiTh wonderful Teachers like lVls. Duke waTching The growTh and changes in The school, and hopefully Vines and lvls.
