Dallin Allred points to a difficult part of the music while Eric Scott smilingly insists Dallin is wrong. Rachel Griffing awaits Ernie Keenan's arrangement of the sheet music for their next number. NO STRINGS ATTACHED hristine Thornton and Rachel Griffing Cviolinj and Theresa Castoro Ccelloj were selected for Senior High Symphony during the All-District TMEA - District lll orchestra competition. Also, Nate Brinkley Cviolinj and Tanya Schwoch Cviolaj were se- lected for the All-District Junior High String Orchestra in the same contest. Achievements such as these are common to the Vines Orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Marilyn Evans. With twenty-nine students involved, the orches- tra competed in a variety of contests including the U.l.L. competition in the spring as well as the fall All- District try-outs. Concerts for the year included the Cluster Concert at Shepton, in October, the winter concert at Plano Senior High in December, a concert in December at Collin Creek Mall, the Spring Fling Concert in May. Raising funds for the orchestra was done through candy sales, car washes and selling pecans in coordina- tion with the Vines Band. The group hosted the Shepton Orchestra in Novem- ber with a hay ride and bonfire. The year culminated with the District Banquet on May 23.

Mr. Garms and Mrs. Wimberly go over a new song before presenting it to the class. Ashley Thompson Kristen Smolka and Cathy DeLatte form a trio of smiles after a spectacular performance NOTES TO MELODY ll of the combined choir classes totalled ninety-seven students all sharing a com- mon interest in music. Because these stu- dents enjoy singing learning about music, and want to develope their talents they joined the Vines choir. Everyday the choir warms up to prac- tice each of their songs to perfect it for an upcom- ing festival or concert such as those held at U.l.L., Six Flags or the Vines Christmas concert in early December. The choir s directors Mrs. Wimberly and Mr. Garms work each section of the choir until the particular piece is done without mistake. This constant hard work pays off. Choir members Ester Tavarez and Robert Aldridge were selected to represent Vines in the District Ill High School Choir Concert, with Paul Neimi and Kevin Kenne- dy placing in the top eight of their section for the choir. To reward themselves for working diligent- ly, the choir members sold frames, mirrors, and candy to raise funds for extracirricular activities. As many judges and students saw, the Vines choir met their goals through a great deal of hard work. 2- lf . 1 1 . - 1 1 1 1 1 1 Kevin Kennedy takes his music for the All-Region choir concert very seriously.
