The vikings leave the field The Vines band after an outrageous wonder- Cleans ,UP after ful performance. an excmng Pep S0 FINE! GOING BAND FROM VIKING LAND his year's Going Band from Viking Land rocked, rolled, strummed and drummed their way through intricate field patterns while re- galing their audience with stereophonic sounds. As always, this year was no exception in excellent per- formances from the Vines Marching Band. Members personified the saying practice makes perfect. The Marching Band practiced long hours in all types of weather. Before the school year. began, members could be found practicing on hot asphalt twice daily. After school began, members took their instruments back to the parking lot for after-school practice in the rain and in the cold. One hundred and eleven members strong, the Band members also attended summer camps at West Texas State University in Canyon. In addition, the Percussion Line attended camps at the Universi- ty of Texas at Arlington and Plano. In April, the Band traveled to Houston to compete in the Astroworld Band Festival. ln order to attend, Band members undertook fund raisers such as mag- azine sales and food feasts. Each member was re- sponsible for raising his share of expenses for the competition in Houston. Again the Vines Marching Band upheld their tradition of bringing home top honors as they competed against bands from all across the state. Two Band groups comprised the Marching Band. Symphonic Band met class second period while Concert Band met fifth period. Whatever their par- ticular mete, the sound never wavered from the traditional brand of Vines Band excellence. Drum Majors for this year's Band were Scooter Hamilton and Greg Horne. Jerry Finnell and Fred Velez again guided and directed the Going Band from Viking Land. rally.
