Students tend to think of school not only as a place to learn, but a way to have some freedom from their parents for seven hours a day. The students whose mom or dad worked at Vines would not ha'ye that sense of freedom . It doesn't bother me; I'm glad to do it, said C.J. Dil- lard. In the beginning hav- ing your own car is a no- velty but later becomes a necessity. It's just that McDermott doesn't have ice on his windows! says Brad Jorgenson. VINES UNIQUE, SPECIAL The Vines Student Body, well, it's just unique, said Leslie Tubbs. The feeling of uniqueness is attributed to many things by the stu- dents of Vines. According to Lisa Myscowski, Vines unique attitude stems from having to share some of the most formative years. The two years spent at Vines are matur- ing years so we all share the aches and pains of this growing, said Mys- cowski, l'and if the sopho- mores are tough on the freshmen, it's because we want them to learn the importance of respresent- ing Vines and leading it. 44 Another student feels that is the community eye that makes Vines unique. Every time something bad happens like one of us makes a really dumb mistake, the news people make sure to put Vines all over the front page, he said, and that makes us stick together we're not perfect here at Vines, but neither is any body else from any of the other schools. We stick to- gether because we're a family, a second family, said Shawn Pratt,- Mr. Walker makes that plain from the first day we're here, and the teachers show us they care, at least most of them, about us and our feelings so we're like a family. We're real close here at Vines from the faculty on down to the students, said R.D. Lashar, because we're taught to be unique individuals. I'm sure most people feel that way, but we're talking about Vines, and Vines is definitely unique. We all feel pretty special about it and each other. lll wish everybody could see how neat Vines is, said Michelle Schneider, lland see the closeness. Vines is really special unique. ROTC members drill for preci- sion and perfection. Jim Edmonds and Mike Daniel check their list as members report in Chris Howard asks, Can you order me two tacos and a Coke? for duty. 232 erek Drohan keeps his eyes tightly shut in anticipation of a dress- g down by his drill sergeant. Right, Left, Right, yells the drill sergeant. Alison Rockhold keeps her eyes straight ahead in preparation for AFI Annual Inspection The members of ROTC have made this year a great one, but it wasn't just all fun and games. It took long hours of hard work, but it was worth it because they learned about discipline and about leadership. I have learned many things in ROTC such as discipline and leadership said Phoc Hang. ROTC is divided into several groups which are Drill Team, Rifle Team, Color Guard, and first-aid Team. These teams strive for perfection at the An- nual Formal Inspection, Command Inspection and weekly inspections. Some of the activities that ROTC participate in are the Christmas Parade. They marched three miles which started at 7:15. It was a very important event because they marched in front of a con- gressman, a senator and a governor. They also par- ticipated in the AH in Dal- las. They were inspected on their marching and uniforms. ROTC was not just all work; they participated in several fun things. They went on a field trip to Oklahoma to see army forts. They also had an an- nual ball. And finally a fun trip to Six Flags. ROTC is a lot of work, but we do many fun things, said Martin Guillot. ROTC also prepares the members for different things after high school. The class gives us many opportunities when we are out of school, said Jim Kossack. 233 g MW; A $h$gg m H H , H H H , H HH HH HH HH R w; H 7 H1 9 ,N HH HHiHH HH H H H H J! 2;: H HH H HHH H a H H , H H H ' ' H HH HHH H H HH HHH 'm H H, H HHH ,4 H A H : HHHHHHH HH HHH H HHHHHHH.HHH HHHHHHHH ,, HH HH HH H HHHHHH . -- HHHHH :H H HH :3: W H HHJ H' H H H H 9 H H H, H, , H H A V H HHHHH H HHH, HHH H HH-HHH H HH H H H H HH HH HHH HHH HH H H HH HH HHH H , H H H , HHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHH H, HHH'.H HHH HH HH H H H HH HH 2H; H H H HH HH HHH H HH , H HH HH - HH.
