The consistent taps on a tam- bourine signaled the entry of the Vines Vikettes. Forty-seven soph- omore girls made up this select group. These girls have worked many long and hard hours to obtain the perfection they now have. When did it all start? The Vik- ettes started officially practicing July 9 and spent 4 additional days at S.M.U.. the site of the Ameri- can Drill Team School summer clinic. Here the Vikettes received various awards in pompon and marching and two special awards for most improved and hest disci- plined drill team. lronically all of these awards were won without the presence of their permanent sponsor. Some fifteen girls won individ- ual ribbons in pompon. dance. and marching contests. This sum- mer experience ohviously paid off. for the Vikettes received lst place in the Annual .lay-Cees Christmas Parade. However. the awards which the Vikettes are most proud of are their two lst place rihhons won at the Miss Texas Drill Team Pageant.
