1 Foreword 1948 produced many startling and many talked of events. In this election year everyone wondered who was going to win the Republican presidential nomination. Would it be Dewey, Taft, Stassen, or Warren; would Eisenhower be drafted; or would it be some dark horse who'd gain this most talked of position of the year? And what about the other parties? Would there be a split between the northern and southern Democrats? How much threat would there be from Wallace and his third party? What about Aid to Europe? Would the U. N. succeed despite the veto problem? How about the rumors of a war with Russia? And would prices ever go down? Also, in this leap year, the women came out with a radical change in fashions. The ' New Look with its lower hemlines stole the spotlight and seemed to be the height of conversation. Whether we preferred a shapely calf or just a well turned ankle, we all seemed to agree that the style was here to stay and after all it wasn’t too bad. But, most important, 1948 was a graduation year—the year that we seniors gradu- ated from Vineland High School. In the following we present the highlights of that year as they happened in our school. No one person has done quite so much for our Senior class as Miss Rita Cresci. Serving as our junior and senior class advisor Miss Cresci has been the inspiration to making our last two years in Vineland High School such a success. She has directed throughout these years the two greeting card campaigns. She has been the co-ordinator for the committees of the junior and senior class plays. She was head advisor on our trip to Washington and director of our never-to-be- forgotten commencement. Miss Cresci is no stranger to our town. She was born right here in Vineland and attended Sacred Heart School for 12 years. After graduating from Sacred Heart she attended Chestnut Hill College for 4 years where she received her bachelor’s degree. Soon afrer, she came to Vineland High School and has been teaching in the English Department ever since. There is no way great enough to show our appreciation to Miss Cresci for her splendid work. So.in a small way we have dedicated this, the 1948 Record, to Miss Rita Cresci, our Senior Class advisor. We Dedicate This Book 5
