VICTORY CORPS With the increasing need for specialized training on both the fighting and the production fronts, the high schools of the nation began, a year or more ago, to reorganize their classroom offerings and extra-curricular activities to prepare their students for greater service in the war effort. The Victory Corps, proposed in October 1942, was offered as a nation-wide plan of organization into which schools might, if they desired, fit their existing wartime organiza- tions. The aims of this Corps arc two-fold: first, to train young people for the war service they arc to perform after leaving school; second, to give them an opportunity to participate in the community's war effort while still in school. Membership is voluntary, and any pupil in any grade who meets the following conditions may apply for general membership: (1) the student should be participating in a school phys- ical fitness program appropriate to his abilities and needs in the light of his probable contri- bution to the war effort; (2) the student should be studying or have studied school courses appropriate to his age, grade, ability, and probable immediate and future usefulness to the nation's war effort, within the limits of the facilities of the school; (3) the student should be currently participating in at least one important continuing or recurring wartime activity or service. In the Junior and Senior years, pupils may enroll or be advanced to membership in the five specialized sections of the Corps. Members of these special divisions engage in specific preparatory courses for the Armed Services. In Vineland High School about four hundred, over a third of the student body, have enrolled in the Victory Corps. From all appearances, Vineland High School will be keeping in step with our community's slogan, Vineland for Victory.”
