MUG- Margaret Dalton Charles Gaughan Sarah Thomas Ray McNxece Vxctor Groves Retha Allender Roland Mor:-ns Beatrice Robertson Lhfabeth Elder Betty Lou Proctor Gene Morris Norma Lee Wolfe Mary Lou Hearn Edsel Alfred Miriam Barnett Donna Hnnnaman Geraldine Elder Annie Hale Alvin Ford Adnenne Bond Kenneth Anderson Deux Fleming SENIOR CLASS HISTORY It was the fall of 43 when as Freshmen the present Senlor Class graced the halls of dear old V H S At the f1rst of that year we were elghteen strong 1n number to be 1n creased by s1x new arrlvals later In our usual buslness flrst pleasure later manner we held our f1rst class meetmg elect1ng the followlng off1cers Pre sldent Daryl Elhott V1ce Presldent Norma I ee Wolfe Secretary Treasurer Geraldlne Bennett News Reporter Adr1enne Bond Early 1n the year the Sophomores graclously entertalned us wlth an 1n1t1at1on wh1ch both we and they enjoyed heart11y Dur1ng the se ond semester one of our teachers Mlss Wllda Marsch was forced to reslgn because of 11lness Smce she had taught some of us several years we mlssed her very much Our flrst year ended wlthout much not1ce on any one s part especlally the faculty After a refreshmg vacatlon we assembled determlned thls t1me to take all scholastlc honors The beg1nn1ng of school ln 1944 found us all on deck except four We welcomed three new members who were Sarah Thomas Annle Hale and Paul Hunt Later 1n the year Donna Hannaman entered the class and Paul Hunt left At our f1rst meetmg we elected as offzcers Presldent Charles Gaughan V1ce Presldent Paul Hunt Secretary Gerald1ne Bennett Treasurer Betty Lou Proctor New Reporter Adrlenne Bond Our flrst attempt at soclal llfe was an 1n1t1at1on wh1ch we sponsored for the Freshrnen It was our bellef however that there was more 1n1t1at1on outslde the gyrn than 1ns1de I Aprll, we had a hamburger fry and then att movle 1n Marletta chaperoned by Mr Eldrldge Our I a1ns battle scarred from lu O n.tl1ct wlth educatlon and on the verge of collapse necessltated a brlef breathlng spell of three months But come September we be came possessed by a yearmng for lessons books and detent1on hall Unable to res1st th1s yearmng we eagerly flocked back to V H S There we opened the polls and cast ballots for Presldent Geraldlne Bennett V1ce Presldent Kenneth Anderson Secretary Ehzabeth Elder Treasurer Norma Lee Wolfe News Reporter Annle Hale The f1rst th1ng we d1d was to select and present the mystery comedy Watch Out For Spooks wh1ch met wlth huge success In December Miss Bonnle jean Smlth our class adv1sor gave a party for us at her home m Marletta Everybody enjoyed themselves more than very much The next major event of the year was the jun1or Senlor Banquet wh1ch even the Semors admltted was superb Another brlght event of the year was the All County Fleld Day held at the Munlclpal Stad1um ln Marletta Old V H S proved herself of stout heart and sturdy body that day In May the faculty unpressed by our scholarly endeavors awarded us a rlchly deserved vacatlon Back we came ln the tall of 4b now venerable old Senlors and conscious of our pos1 hon We reahzed the dlgmty of manner rt requlred and strlved to set a httmg example for B11 8rr'1nQ underclassmen We elected the followlng offlcers I V . 1 ' 1 I. ' ' U n Presldent Margaret Dalton V1ce Presldent Donna Hannaman Secretary Ellzabeth Elder 'I reasurer Vlctor Groves News Reporter Adnenne Bond and Mlrlam Barnett At a later class meetlng we selected the Yellow Rose for our class flower, yellow and blue for our class colors and after some debate We Buxld the Ship ln Whlch We Sail for our class motto Some l1belous crltter hlnted The End justxfzes the Means would be more sultable I Besldes maklng a close study of a sure fire way to sklp class and Mr We1nstock at the same tlme we sponsored a 1-ad1o show Doc W1l11ams and I-hs Border Rlders We had a good crowd and made about s1xty dollars Durlng the first semester we lost one of our most lllustrlous members Annle Hale, to sunny Callfornla Later Edsel Alfred chucked school llfe for that of a Marlne and from all lndlcatlons he llkes h1s cholce In November we went on a Juncket to Flscher s Studlo ln Marletta and rulned a couple of cameras for hlm None of us were satxsfled w1th the results I guess the plctures looked too much l1ke us We recexved our name cards 1n January and were promptly mobbed that must be a slgn of popularlty Now we are trylng to select a play to be gxven later and also keep our grades above water We wlsh to say ln concluslon that we have enjoyed these four years We reallze that they have been the happ1est of our l1ves and It 1S wlth real regret that we end them We extend our deepest grat1tude to the teachers who have contrlbuted so r1chly to our l1ves THE They had told me I must prophesy But I knew not what to do For I was not born a prophet Any more than one of you I had spent the day ln study And 1n thlnkmg hard and deep So I now all worn and weary Lay me down and fell asleep I had la1n there but a moment In that slumber calm sweet When I rose, refreshed and strengthened And stepped out upon the street But I very soon dlscovered That I was 1n a strange place, For I saw not one known flgure Nor an old famlllar face I was ln a mammoth clty By the s1de of whlch I knew That New York, the natlon s glory, Would stand but a feeble showy Great skyscrapers all about meg Aeroplanes through all the aug Wonders far beyond conception Here and there and everywhere' CLASS Margaret Dalton Class of 1947 VISION I could scarce belleve my senses When I saw the alrshlp 11ne Bore the well known name of Vlncent Whlle the same gleamed from each slgn And my eyes were opened wlder Than they d ever been before When I saw a slip of paper Dated 1964 Whlle I puzzled o re this problen Starmg round wzth open eyes Looklng for someone to questlon Of thzs marvelous surpnse I beheld near me a lady Commg on with footsteps slow And I thought I would accost her And learn what I wlshed to know As she came to be stlll nearer I thought I had seen that face, Somewhere else, yet could not put it In exactly 1ts right place: But at last she stood before me, And all wonder vanished quite: T'was my old chum, Sarah Thomas, And I met her with delight. , . . . .
