PREFACE... As time goes by and one finds himself far along on some distant future way of life, he may turn, glance back, and then and then only, can he truly evaluate these events that are the present. We are no excep- tion. We are nearsighted. But we have tried to project ourselves — to give you this 1964 Le Revoir (formerly known as the Re Voo)a true picture of the year — a picture of what some day will be memories, some of the best memories of your life... Even now as you turn these pages for the first time, you find memories, and even now these memories are mellowing and the circumstances that created them are changing. This is as it should be. A University should be the symbol of change and progress... As we celebrate the 164th anniversary of the founding of Vincennes University and the tenth year on the present campus, we are aware that vast changes are taking place in all aspects of the campus. And yet, there is something unchanging about the University. Through all this pattern of change and counter-change there is woven the steel thread of tradition, without which there would be no pattern —no lasting pattern. And so, let us say it has been a year with more than its changes... but a year that saw the rebirth of the old traditions. Remember the tenth anniversary convocation in the grove near the Ad- ministration Building at the exact location where President Beckes held the first convocation on the present campus... The new spirit and the old together... memories... let that stand for the Vincennes University for the year of ’64. — . Spirit of the Anniversary of the University Ten years ago Vincennes University made its historic move to the new Harrison Park campus. Left behind were inadequate and deteriorating facilities, but not some 75 years of tradition and devoted at- tachment to the old campus. The decade which has ensued has seen the new campus expand, the program of the University grow in its breadth and usefulness, and new traditions established which will be revered in the years to come. The story of Vincennes University’s growth onits new campus is a thrilling story, one which includes the leadership of a splendid Board of Trustees, and of an able, devoted faculty. It includes the loyalty and generosity of literally hundreds of alumni and friends whose financial contributions and many other types of assistance have made the growth possible. It also includes the story of a growing and worthy student body whose capacity and scholarship have brought them to places of leadership all over the na- tion. The past ten years will always be remembered as the period for the building of the new Vincennes University.
