In doing this they organize pep sessions, sponsor the cheer block, make and display posters throughout the school, and are sponsors of the cheerleaders. To finance this organization the mem- bers sell magazine subscriptions. They also sell football and basketball stickers during the respective seasons and tournament. The club en- deavors to make the students conscious of the great heritage and responsibility which is theirs in this land of freedom and opportunity. The activities carried forward by the club this year included selling concessions at the home football games, financing and posting the flags in the various classrooms, displaying the large flag outside the build- ing, placing the street barricades on Buntin Street during school hours, and financing the sending of our school paper to former students of Lincoln High School now in the armed forces. The Marching Band Consists of 120 members who practice. not only during the school year. but also during summer vacation to prepare for the state marching contest and half-time shows at football games. This year the band participated in two outside events before school started in September. The band marched in the Gibson County Fair Cen- tennial Parade at Princeton. The band also traveled to Indianapolis to the Indiana State Fair for the state marching contest. There were 84 bands com- peting in the contest and the Lincoln High March- ing Band won first place. making them the State Marching Champsfi After the beginning of school. the band made to Terre Haute to march in the Indiana State Teachers College Homecoming Pa- rade. This year the band was given a very special honor. On April 14, the band traveled to St. Louis to put on a marching demonstration for the Music Deucators National Conference's Fiftieth Anni- versary. The Alices had a team that was so well balanced that, the season, five different boys led the team to victory. He played three years of varsity football and was outstanding in the last two. Leo also has a high average in his scholastic work. Leo plays basketball and baseball and does very well in both. I Head Coach George Inman headed the Alices for the last time this fall. It was quite a shock to hear of his retirement after 27 years of coaching on the LHS staff, and we are sure his presence will leave something missing when next fall rolls around. The high point of the season was the game with Sullivan when they were ranked high in the state and the Colden Ar- rows found themselves lucky to get away with a 6-0 win. The Alice cindermen again came through their season with a fine record. They won every one of their dual meets. Also during the season they won such meets as the Paris lIlI.r Relays. Linton Re- lays, Petersburg Relays, and the Old Post Relays. They have now won the Old Post Relays ten con- secutive times. During the regular season the Alices lost only one meet: that being the Wabash Valley where they were defeated hy a good Garfield team. The Alices also won the S.I.A.C. crown and wound up their season as undisputed champions of their conference. ln the Seelionals whieh were held at llose Poly in Terre Haute. the Alix-es qualified seven men to go to the llegionals. These were Gaylord Gannon. half-miler: Dave Whitfield. quarter-miler: Gary Snyder. miler: Frank Kehl. hroad-jumper: Larry Davis. hroad-jumper: Gerald Kimmons, high- jumper: and l.arrv hlikiska. miler. ln the Regionals. the Alices qualified all their Sectional runners exeept three. ln the State Meet.
