Under a canopy ot stars, the couples danced to sott music. Along the sides a myriad ot stars against a background ot blue con- veyed the theme, Stardust A sparkling, miniature kT.,c vvatertall cascading over a bank ot greenery in the center ot the dance tloor added a touch ot reality to the ethereal ettect, Thus the months ot planning and the tinal hectic week ot actually decorating the Coliseum were brought to a pleasing climax, gcfzaof 195.2 The Big day arrived at last - the parade with many beautiful floats moved slowly down the street bringing gasps of wonder and delight from the crowd That evening preceding the game, lovely Queen Pat Alsop was crowned by Mr, L. V. Phillips, Indiana State Commissioner of Athletics. The Alices added their contribution to a perfect day by defeat- ing Princeton. Following the game, the traditional sock-hop was held at the Coliseum Our sixth an- nual Homecoming Day passed into history, L. As the athletic seasons closed we realized that never again vvould we sing our high school song as a member ot the student body or play another game tor the coach, The march down the Coliseum aisle at Commencement lett us vvith a happy feeling ot accomplishment lessened by a vvarm nostalgia tor old Lincoln l-ligh School, JUNIOR OFFICERS AND SPONSORS Seated: Mr, Edward Ford, Bill Johnson, President, and Miss Leona Katterlnenry. ' X Organization of the class laid the fouridation for this year of exciting activity. After several whirlwind days of nominations and votings the class officers were chosen. Next the class sponsors, in whose hands most of the responsibility falls, were selected. ,, When a Junior receives his class ring, he feels that he is truly a part of Lincoln High School. Also, during this year the class makes its first bid to glory and recognition in the form of the Prom. A successful season selling refreshments at the bas- ketball gamessyields a most gratifying result in this gala occasion. We'proudly claim the honor of hav- ing the most beautiful prom. We were helped by Mr. Schulte, who served as our i' ,Y ,L ...K counselor. Gradually we learned to save steps be- tween classes by becoming familiar with the build- ing. Teachers and all those faces became definite personalities, and today we eagerly look forward to being here next year. Yes, these are the sports that are participated in by Lincoln l-ligh's athletes. Need- less to say, the main object of this section of our curriculum is to build, strengthen, and condition the human body, but at the same time other objectives are being sought, Character, sports- manship, working habits, and physical endurance are developed. Sometimes in the frenzy of the actual games, these points are overlooked in the cheers of the crowd and the shrill whistles of the officials. Hihlelic Nc! Ordering athletic equipment, con- tracting opponents several years in advance, se- curing refereeesg selling tickets, reserving seats, ordering trophies, letters, and sweaters for the athletes, making all the arrangements for the Sectional and Regional tournamentsethese are only a few of the many jobs confronting Mr. Marutz. Although this work takes up much of each day, Mr. Marutz also teaches algebra and trigonom- etry, An office staff of five students aid him in selling tickets and handling office calls. The second loss was at the hands of our old rnal, Washirigton, After a nip and tuck battle all the way, the gun ended with Washing- ton ahead by three points Next we traveled to Jeffersonville and were given our third defeat, 60 to 47. At this point, Coach Chet Francis found his winning combination, They quickly proved their ability by beating Bedford, Sulliyan, New Albany, Bicknell, and Terre l-laute Garfield. These vice tories put us in the winning column with a record of five wins and three losses. Other teams had greater respect for us and regarded Vincennes as one of the powerhouses of southern Indiana. ln the l-loliday Tournament the Alices lost the first game to a strong Huntingburg team The consolation game resulted in another defeat by Washington, 55 to 49. Jasper gave us a heartbreaker by winning 58 to 56 A trip to Madison resulted in our sixth win, 66 to 54, For three quarters Chet's men kept up with high-ranking Evansville Central, Evansvilles superior height came through in the last period and they won, 67457, The Alices showed how much they had ima proved by taking adecisive victory from Washf ington, 58 to 47. From across the Wabash came the Lawrenceville Indians. Our Alices had ref venge by handing them an eighteenfpoint defeat. Higharanking and defending State Champion, Muncie Central, gave us our worst beating. Our team showed their courage by holding them to a one point lead at the half. A well-balanced Bloomington five gave us ana other loss. lt took an overtime for Jasper to re- peat its first victory, Both squads played better ball but Jasper finally subdued the Alices, 59-57. Although the 52-53 season of Lincoln l-ligh basketball was on and off, the Alices faced one of the toughest schedules of any team in the state, losing only to top-rate squads, COACH CHET FRANCIS That team is coached by Chet Francisf this phrase brings to your minds eye a rnental picture ot a bunch ot snappy, hardfplaying, tasternoying basketball players who never give up. This is Chet's sixth year at guiding and training our basketball tearn ln addition to his work with this team, Mr, Francis is on the statt of football coaches is our head baseball coach, and also teaches safety, OSCAR FINKE Vlr, Oscar Finke is the proud coach ot Lincoln fligh Schools successtul B-tearn. Due to Oz- ie's expert guidance, his boys had a yery good eason. This year the Little Alices gained valu- ble experience by playing with the Varsity. his is Mrs Finkes fourth season as assistant oachi Each year his team has been a group ot lert, hustling ball-hawks.
