FOOTBALL The Vincennes High School Alices came through another rough year with a fine record. The Alices were definitely an improved ball club. As in past years the Alices never lacked the tight and drive that has become a tradition with Vincennes teams, Despite the fact that the Alices dropped some heart- breakers, the picture looks like this: 3 wins, 6 losses, and l tie. Gone from the Alices of 1949 are the sen- iors who have done a fine job. Missing from the forward wall will be Chet Ferguson, guard, Bob Steinsberger, tackle, Paul East, center and co-cap- taing Garnett Martin, guard, Dick Edwards, end and co-captain: Bob Bierhaus, guard, and Charles Day, tackle. The seniors gone from the backfield are Bob lnman, quarterback, Bob Tolbert, halfbackg and Iohn Sours, quarterback. ..7 3- We shouldn't forget the men who make possible the fine playing of the team. A lot of credit goes to George lnman, head coach, who coached the team through a fine season. Also responsible for the fi,ne Work of this year's team are Oscar Finke, backfield coach, and Wyant Baker, line coach. To these men we say, Thanks for a job well done. Brazil 7-Vincennes 0 The Green-and-White clad Alices dropped their opener to Brazil 7-0. After a scoreless first half which matched the Bed Devils' power with the Alices' deceptiveness, Brazil struck through the air for the only tally of the game. Vincennes took over on downs in the first quarter and ended a Brazil drive on the 24 yard line. ln the second quarter it was Craton, Brines, Tolbert, and lnman all going for gains to the Devils' 7-yard line before being stopped. After the Devils kicked, the Alices Went all the way to the l before the half ended. ln the third quarter Beamon passed to Harris for Brazil's only score. l Wiley 28-Vincennes 7 A pair of speedy backs put Wiley of Terre Haute on the long end of the score in the second game this year.
