FQOTBALL A few seconds before the end of the half Schultz took a 45 yard pass from Hudson and stepped 1nto the end zone to glve the Ahces a 38 0 half tlme lead There was only one score ln the thxrd quarter when Rlchardvllle went 7 yards on an end around after some fancy runnmg by Ray Grubb brought the ball ln scormg pos1t1on The flrst Ahce score 1n the f1nal quarter came when Bowman drove over from the 4 after a 37 yard Jaunt by Hudson The last two Allce touchdowns of the game were of a pecuhar nature as llnemen went 1nto the backfleld to try to show some of thelr runnlng ab1l1ty Wlth the ball on the Bulldog 26 Foncannon varslty center went 1nto the quarterback posltlon and streaked around end and down the sldellnes mto the end zone Then a guard Warren Blx by went through the center of the l1ne from tallback pos1t1on to add the extra polnt The fmal dr1ve made by the Green Wave started on the Blcknell 47 Two tackles Murphy and Snapp reeled off galns of 27 yards and 7 yards respectively on end around plays to brmg the ball to the 13 where end Ted Rlchardvllle playlng ln the fullback pos1t1on went over to end the evenlng s scormg BASKETBALL The Ahces played thelr fmal game of the regular hardwood season at the Coliseum Feb 15 wlth Bosse of Evansvllle The game opened Wlth Butterfleld Bosse center h1tt1ng from the floor Then the Al1ces ran up a 5 2 lead but the Bulldogs were leading 6 5 at the end of the quarter In the second quarter the close play was con tlnued ln a dlsplay of fast scormg WhlCh ran up to the 20 20 half tlme score The Bulldogs tore loose 1n the thlrd quarter to outscore the Al1C8S 19 8 and ln the flnal quarter 18 8 wlth the Ahces unable to keep up wlth the terr1f1c pace set by Bosse ln the last half The flnal score showed the Bulldogs out ln front 57 36 SECTIONAL VINCENNES 57, BRUCEVILLE 30 The Ahces began thelr sectlonal play Frlday afternoon February 22 by defeatlng the Bruce Vllle Toppers The Green and Whlte were coached through the tourney by George Inman and Clarence Tolbert because of Coach Frank Conrad s sudden lllness The Al1ces took off to a qulck lead and the flrst quarter ended 14 4 Hooper the blg Brucevllle center was the only scorer for the Toppers ln the flrst quarter The Ahces pushed thelr lead to 14 pomts and the halftlme score was 28 17 The last half saw all Alxces gettmg action and scormg The Al1ces outscored the Top pers by 11 pomts ln the thlrd perlod Each qumtet scored 11 pomts ln tlge last quarter but the Al1ces were v1ctor1ous 57 30 Burdsall was hlgh for the Green and Whlte wxth 18 pomts wh1le Grubb tallled 10 pomts VINCENNES 35 EDWARDSPORT 26 The Al1ces were v1ctor1ous over the Powers of Edwardsport ln thelr second tourney game lfuday evenlng Feb 22 The flrst quarter saw the Powers battle to earn a 4 4 t1e score but the Al1ces lncreased the1r tallles to lead 11 5 at the end of the quar ter The half txme score was 20 14 wlth the Al1ces st1ll sxx pomts ln the lead However rn the flnal elght mlnutes the Ahces Increased thelr lead to 9 pomts and the game ended 35 26 Burdsall tallied 12 po1nts to be h1gh for Vln CQIIIICS VINCENNES 40 FREELANDVILLE 24 The Al1ces racked up their thlrd wln ln the tourney Saturday afternoon Feb 23 when they defeated Freelandvllle s Flghtlng Dutch The flrst perlod ended wlth the Al1ces only three pomts ln the lead but the lead margm was lncreased and the fmal score was 40 24 Vmcennes Tall Glb Bluhm Dutch center was held to only one f1eld goal by the Green and Whlte Wlth 11 pomts Burdsall was agam hlgh man for the Ahces The Ahces won thelr flrst sectlonal tourna ment ln SIX years on February 23 at the Coll seum when they defeated the Blcknell Bull dogs The flrst half featured a mp and tuck battle wlth the Al1ces managmg to front the 21 20 half tlme score In the thlrd quarter the Al1ces netted a flve lead but Menke and Fowler brought the Bull dogs back to tle the score 29 all Then Grubb and Burdsall pushed the Ahce score to 34 and the thlrd perlod ended 34 31 wlth the AllC6S stlll leadlng The flnal quarter saw Bicknell score only one fleld goal and the Ahces romped on to hand the Bulldogs a 46 33 defeat Grubb was hlgh for the Al1ces with 24 pomts Whlle Fowler led the Black and Gold with 13 pomts REGIONAL The Vlncennes Al1ces completed the basket ball season of 45 46 on the afternoon of March 2 when they lost to the exceedlngly hot Jasper hardwood club ln the second game of the reg xonal tournament at the Coliseum Because of Coach Conrad s lllness the Ahces were wonderfully handled by substltute coach es Inman and Tolbert The game opened wlth the Al1ces leading 2 1 on Lashers flelder Then the Wlldcats began an uncanny hxttmg spree Wh1Ch lasted the entlre game the flnal score bemg 49 26 Burdsall tallled 14 pomts to be hlgh polnt man for the Al1ces VINCENNES 36, BOSSE 57 VINCENNES 46, BICKNELL 33

SULLIVAN 25 0 The Al1ces met and conquered a scrappy Sulllvan aggregatlon 25 0 1n a hard fought con es It was not untll the mlddle of the openmg quarter that a dr1ve was started that carrled the Green and Whlte into scormg terrltory The Al1ces recovered a Sullxvan fumble on thelr own 12 and then went to the Arrows 38 where Hud son passed to Lasher who was brought down on the 3 Blg l1ne bustlng B111 Harwrck toted the ball the fmal 3 yards Hudsons attempt for the extra po1nt was no good Phe game then settled down to a puntlng duel untll the last few mmutes when Sullivan drove to the V1n cennes 7 only to be stopped by the gun endmg the flrst half In the second half the Al1ces went lnto the Sulllvan end zone three tlmes twlce on freak plays Hudson set up the only score ln the th1rd perlod when he raced 56 yards through the whole Sulllvan team to the 6 yard l1ne and from there rn 4 plays vvlth Bowman carrylng the ball over from the 1 the Al1ces lncreased then' lead to 12 to 0 The last two Allce markers were on 1nter cepted passes The flrst one resulted when Bob Scott a guard rushed mto the Sulllvan backf1eld grabbed a short pass from the grasp of a Sulllvan recelver and raced 50 yards to the goal l1ne Bowmans place k1Ck was good Then Inman caught a deflected Sulllvan pass and raced 35 yards to score BICKNELL 64 0 The Al1ces closed thelr season by massacrmg the B1cknell Bulldogs on B1cknell s home fleld 64 0 The Bulldogs klcked off and on the elghth play from scr1mmage Cannon went over from the two Hudson drop klcked the extra po1nt The Al1ces agaln scored after B1cknell had been forced to punt fa1l1ng to ga1n the neces sary yardage for a flrst down Bowman flgur ed largely 1n the march by gomg off tackle for 17 yards and on the next play pass1ng to Schultz who lateraled to Cannon the total play coverlng 21 yards and then he passed agam to Schultz th1s tlme rn the end zone Hudsons try for the extra falled There was no scormg untll the second quarter when on the flrst play of the perlod Hudson pushed h1s way over from the 4 Bowman went over for the extra po1nt The Bulldogs recelved the kxckoff and lost the ball on downs on then' own 20 From there Hudson went over on an end run A bad B1cknell punt set up the next score the Al1ces taklng over on the 39 Galns bv Jones Mack and Lanham brought the ball to the 7 where Bowman went the remalnlng dlstance through the center of the lme BASKETBALL a h1tt1ng spree The th1rd quarter score was 30 29 wlth the Al1ces barely ln the lead Early 1n the last quarter the Happy Hunters netted 3 polnts to t1e up the score at 32 all The Al1ces then used all thelr speed and went ahead to w1n the game 42 37 Unusual ln th1s game was the fact that there was no substltutlons 1n the Allce l1ne up Burd sall Lasher Hudson Carle and Foncannon made up the Green and Whxte qumtet va ho played the entxre 32 mlnutes Hlgh scoler for Vmcennes was Burdsall wlth 14 pom s XVl'l1l9 Hudson and Lasher eacn netted 10 polnts Schmldt and Blemker each made 10 markers to be high for Huntlngburg VINCENNES 35 BLOOMINGTON 27 The Al1ces stayed ln the w1n column by de featmg the Bloommgton Panthers 35 27 Feb 8 on the Bloommgton hardwood The openmg quarter featured very close play Wlth the score at the quarter belng t1ed a 7 all The game contmued to be a n1p and tuck battle t1ll the last two minutes of the flrst half The Panthers had a 14 13 lead but the Al1C8S regamed the lead on f1elders by Foncannon and Burdsall the half tlme score belng 17 14 In the last half the Al1ces steadlly lncreased then lead to corne out on the long end of the flnal 35 27 score Hmgh scorer for the Green and Whlte was Burdsall w1th 18 polnts whlle Grubb racked up 8 Lasher 4 and Foncannon 3 Hlgh men for Bloommgton were Brown and Young each wlth 9 pomts VINCENNES 37, LAWRENCEVILLE 32 By beatlng the Lawrencevllle Ind1ans for the second tlme ln the season the Al1ces added to thelr longest wmnlng streak of the season to glve a contlnuous strmg of 6 trlumphs The score was 37 32 After breaklng a 3 3 tle mld way ln the open mg perxod the Al1ces took the lead whlch they never gave up At the close of both the quarter and the half the Al1ces were ln control of the game w1th a four po1nt margln the scores belng 11 7 and 20 16 In the thlrd perlod the Vln cennes margm was lncreased to 5 when the Green and Whlte was 1n front 30 25 when the fmal perlod began It was ln the openlng mlnutes of the fourth quarter that the Ind1ans made a determlned effort to catch up and were meetlng wlth success but wlth the score readlng 30 29 the Al1ces scorlng power broke loose and w1th 5 qulck pomts thwarted all of Law rencevllle s hopes Grubb and Lasher shared the scormg honors each scormg 11 polnts Summers wlth 14 polnts was hlgh for the Ind1ans Wher all
