FCQTBALL BASKETBALL Went over from the 1 yard lme on fourth down It was durmg th1S quarter that the Allces suf fered a heartbreaklng setback when a 50 yard touchdown run by Hudson was nul1f1ed by a penalty The second half saw the Bears score thelr second and thlrd touchdowns ln qulck order w1th one late ln the thlrd quarter and the other a few plays after the beglnnmg of the flnal quarter Workmg scored h1s second touchdown from the two yard llne to end a 50 yard dr1ve Whlle Watson went over from the fxve yard str1pe for the thlrd and flnal Lentral tally Mathls p1Ck8d all three 01 the extra pomts 'rom placement The lone score for the Allces followed after Lentral had completed thelr scorlng The Bears klcked off and Cannon gained 10 yards to the 28 Hudson then tossed a pass to Rlch ardvllle to the 50 After Harwlck plcked up 20 yards Hudson faded back and threw a pass to Schultz who went over to glve the Allces thexr 6 pomts The try for the extra polnt was wlde LINTON 6 7 The Ahces met Wlth thelr second defeat of the year when the lnvadmg Llnton Mlner who went through the season undefeated journeyed home v1ctor1ous by the close score of 7 6 The game was hard fought from the very beglnnlng The Allces recelved the klckoff and belng unable to get rolllng were forced to punt Then Llnton had to punt as they were stopped cold by the Allce llnemen Thls ex change of punts contlnued for the greater part of the fxrst half It was not untll the last few mlnutes that the Green and Whlte got started mOVlHg GHIHS by Cannon and Harwlck and a pass from Hudson to Rlchardvllle brought the ball from the VIHCCHHCS 37 to the Linton 25 From there Inman went to the 14 and Hudson covered the flnal 14 on a reverse Just 18 ec onds before the half Bowmans place kick was Wlde Llnton s score came mldway ln the thlrd perlod when one of Harwlck s passes was lnter cepted on the Vlncennes 33 A galn of 6 yards put the ball on the 27 and from there Peterson of Llnton Went through a large hole ln the llne and evaded the secondary to score Keller placed klcked the extra pomt The last quarter was scoreless w1th Llnton controllxng the ball the last 6 mlnutes of the game The Allces were decxdely off ln the second half maklng only one flrst down as compared to 8 1n the flrst half WA' HINGTON 65 0 Playmg thelr la t game before a home crowd the Allces handled the Washlngton Hatchets wlth ease wlnnlng 65 0 The Ahces left no doubt as to tl1e outcome of the game when they took the opemng k1ck off and marched 70 yards ln 14 plays to pay curt wlth Bowman tallylng from the 1 The VINCENNES 37 NEW ALBANY 34 The Allces took tlme out from thelr Chrlstmas vacatlon to add another vlctory to thelr collec tlon by defeatlng the New Albany Bulldogs 37 34 ln a close evenly matched contest The game was a thrlller from the xery start wlth the score bemg tled slx dlffe ent umes Nelther team held the lead by a comfortable margln at any txme the largest dlfference belng 5 pomts The count was even at the close of the flrst perlod 10 10 Then the Allces surged lnto the lead ln the second perlod and held a 17 13 advantage at the half The Bulldogs not to be counted out yet outscored the Green and Whlte by f1V8 pomts to start off the flnal perlod Wlth a 1 polnt lead As the fourth quarter began tl'e Allces qulckly added 6 markers to give them thelr blggest lead of the evenlng 32 27 whlch was too much for the Bulldogs to overcome VINCENNES 3o JASPER 44 The AllC88 traveled to Jasper Jan 4 to suf fer thelr thlrd defeat of the season and second defeat from the Wlldcats The game started w1th the Allces playlng a m tn to man defense Wtxh Jasper leadlng 18 5 at the end of the flrst period the Allces chang ed thelr tactlcs by playlng a stlff zone defense the 1ema1nder of the game The Allces outscored the Wlldcats the last three perlods but not enough The game ended wlth Jasper leadlng 44 35 The Allces racked up another w1n when they handed the Jeffersonvllle Red Devlls a 46 35 defeat Jan 5 at the Collseum At the time the Red Devlls were rated among the flrst ten teams ln the state accordlng to the A P poll The Ahces took an early lead ln the game Wlth the score at the end of the flrst quarter 17 8 Phe second quarter saw Vlncennes Wld enlng the lead margln ex en more the half tlme score belng 28 15 The Allces got a scare ln the last of the final quarter Wrth four mlnutes of play remalmng the Red Devlls came Wlthln slx pomts of catch mg up wlth the Green and Whlte wave How ever Pete Lasher and Hoss Foncannon each fllpped 1n a fleld goal to clnch the game for Vlncennes and complete the Allces 46 polnts agalnst Jeff s 35 VINCPNNES 46 CENTRAL 49 The Allces rece1ved thelr fourth defeat of the season flom Central Jan 11 at Ewansvllle ln a ox ertlme contest The and Whlte into scormg terrltory The Al1ces recovered a Sullxvan fumble on thelr own 12 and then went to the Arrows 38 where Hud son passed to Lasher who was brought down on the 3 Blg l1ne bustlng B111 Harwrck toted the ball the fmal 3 yards Hudsons attempt for the extra po1nt was no good Phe game then settled down to a puntlng duel untll the last few mmutes when Sullivan drove to the V1n cennes 7 only to be stopped by the gun endmg the flrst half In the second half the Al1ces went lnto the Sulllvan end zone three tlmes twlce on freak plays Hudson set up the only score ln the th1rd perlod when he raced 56 yards through the whole Sulllvan team to the 6 yard l1ne and from there rn 4 plays vvlth Bowman carrylng the ball over from the 1 the Al1ces lncreased then' lead to 12 to 0 The last two Allce markers were on 1nter cepted passes The flrst one resulted when Bob Scott a guard rushed mto the Sulllvan backf1eld grabbed a short pass from the grasp of a Sulllvan recelver and raced 50 yards to the goal l1ne Bowmans place k1Ck was good Then Inman caught a deflected Sulllvan pass and raced 35 yards to score BICKNELL 64 0 The Al1ces closed thelr season by massacrmg the B1cknell Bulldogs on B1cknell s home fleld 64 0 The Bulldogs klcked off and on the elghth play from scr1mmage Cannon went over from the two Hudson drop klcked the extra po1nt The Al1ces agaln scored after B1cknell had been forced to punt fa1l1ng to ga1n the neces sary yardage for a flrst down Bowman flgur ed largely 1n the march by gomg off tackle for 17 yards and on the next play pass1ng to Schultz who lateraled to Cannon the total play coverlng 21 yards and then he passed agam to Schultz th1s tlme rn the end zone Hudsons try for the extra falled There was no scormg untll the second quarter when on the flrst all The Al1ces then used all thelr speed and went ahead to w1n the game 42 37 Unusual ln th1s game was the fact that there was no substltutlons 1n the Allce l1ne up Burd sall Lasher Hudson Carle and Foncannon made up the Green and Whxte qumtet va ho played the entxre 32 mlnutes Hlgh scoler for Vmcennes was Burdsall wlth 14 pom s XVl'l1l9 Hudson and Lasher eacn netted 10 polnts Schmldt and Blemker each made 10 markers to be high for Huntlngburg VINCENNES 35 BLOOMINGTON 27 The Al1ces stayed ln the w1n column by de featmg the Bloommgton Panthers 35 27 Feb 8 on the Bloommgton hardwood The openmg quarter featured very close play Wlth the score at the quarter belng t1ed a 7 all The game contmued to be a n1p and tuck battle t1ll the last two minutes of the flrst half The Panthers had a 14 13 lead but the Al1C8S regamed the lead on f1elders by Foncannon and Burdsall the half tlme score belng 17 14 In the last half the Al1ces steadlly lncreased then lead to corne out on the long end of the flnal 35 27 score Hmgh scorer for the Green and Whlte was Burdsall w1th 18 polnts whlle Grubb racked up 8 Lasher 4 and Foncannon 3 Hlgh men for Bloommgton were Brown and Young each wlth 9 pomts VINCENNES 37, LAWRENCEVILLE 32 By beatlng the Lawrencevllle Ind1ans for the second tlme ln the season the Al1ces added to thelr longest wmnlng streak of the season to glve a contlnuous strmg of 6
