THE EXILE Editorials KNOW YOUR ISLAND Do you reallv know or appreclate thls lovely lsland of ours' When was the last t1me vou watched the waves beatlng agalnst a lonely shore or wan dered through a plne scented forest? Have vou been to Starboard Rock lately? It IS one of the hlghest polnts on the lsland It g1V6S you a wonder ful feellng of freedom to stand there and let the w1nd blow 1n your face and to smell the good fragrance of trees water and wllderness to look stralght down to the yvaves on one Slde and to gaze across the water to fam1l1ar parts of the lsland Byer ley s Farm Ross Grevs Farm the Stand Plpe and m1ll1ons of trees everywhere' Yes Starboard Rock 1S the place you should VlS1t Slnce the t0p1C IS mountalns an other beautlful spot IS T1p toe Moun ta1n The clxmb to the top 1sn t nearly as hard as Starboard Rock but the VIQW IS wonderful One s1de slopes down to meet the water and stand lng on the top you can see for mlles around The water below forms a cove and there a small plece of land 1uts out mak1ng a m1n1ature lsland From there one should go to the Canyon or Gulch as some call It You can drlve through but lt s much more 1mpress1ve 1f you walk' As you go between the two h1gh walls of solld rock It almost takes your breath away It IS so WQ1l'Cl and lonesome l1ke an enchanted place' The damp smell of a spot that doesnt see the sun fills vour nostr1ls as you walk through and alwavs there IS a cool breeze blowmg around vou The Moors at Lanes Island lS one of the lovellest spots near town The Moors IS covered w1th tall brown grass and the yvlnd seems al ways to be blowlng through It mak 1ng a soft rushlng sound' There are patches of syyampy marsh land Down on the shore there IS Daddy Lane the old man of stone carved by na ture who keeps h1s watch over the sea year after year Here you can llsten to the roar of the waves and see the true beauty of the ocean 1n all 1tS fury The water rushlng ln and then falllng back to the sea IS always beautlful always breathtakmg' Here the fresh sea a1r comes ln rushes and the spray leaves a salt taste on your l1ps' Th1S spot alone IS the reason whv so many love our lsland Of the many quarrles the East Bos ton quarry w1th ltS st1ll clear water and sllent chffs IS a plcture of qu1et beauty As a place to sw1m there IS no better lt IS also a very plctur esque spot for DICHICS Seal Bay must not be forgotten but to app1ec1ate the full beauty of th1s place y ou should take a boat and go out 1nto the m1ddle of the bay Here vou can see all the coves rug ged rocks and tall spruce trees wlth thelr reilect1ons ln the water Th1s and lf you s1t st1ll and look across the clear glass l1ke water vou ll hear noth1ng but perchance the cry of a lone sea gull' It 1s as 1f there IS no other l1v1ng person on the earth' It IS as It must have been thousands of years ago-a pr1m1t1ve lovehness' A very popular place for p1cn1cs and beach partles IS Freddv Gearv s Beach Thls place IS lovely at nlght s1tt1ng on the shore and watchlng the moon send 1ts beams l1ke a golden pathway over the water and l1sten mg to the soft tread of the waves as they wash on the sand It IS also very 1mpress1ve early 1n the mornlng be fore the sun IS up' To s1t on the shore and yvatch the beauty and mysterv of the sunrlse IS a thr1ll1ng experlence The new sun chaslng sleepy nlght away and chang1ng ln but a few mln 3 l' v v 7 ' .
