THE EXILE Editorials SCHOOL SPIRIT In thls past Near at Vmalhaven Hlgh School there have been many changes not the least of whlch has been a reawakenlng of prlde ln our school and a deslre to lmprove It Thls attltude 19 commonly called school Splrlt and although It has reallv come about through the whole heart ed effort of the student bodv The students who partlclpate ln athletlcs are a great credlt to the school 1n that they fight hard to w1n and are alwavs good sports no mat ter what happens In partlclpatlng 1n lnterscholastlc athletlc contests they have won manv new frlends for V H S as well as for themselves Most of the students who arent connected wlth athletlcs are elther 1n the band or have taken part 1n the H1 Jlnks wh1ch ln ltself IS a splen dld example of what a gloup of stu dents workmg together and working can alwavs be counted on to provlde some wonderful entertalnment at a Frldav afternoon assembly elther slngmg or plavlng an lnstrument and also have performed for groups out slde of school such as the Parent Teachers Assoclatlon School Splrlt 1snt however some thmg that should be kept ln mothballs and brought out only for baseball or basketball games etc It should be present durlng school hours as well A casual v1s1tor at Vmalhaven Hlgh School would see that this sp1r1t 1s present ln the young men and women here as thex go about thelr work and would go awax assuled that thex mll succeed ln the future EKIIIOI' ln Chlef A FRIEND INDEED Last fall Mr Hamllton Hall of Camden who lncldentally publlshes our Exlle 1nv1ted the Senlor Class to go to the UHlV8TSlty of Mame 1n order that we mlght become xnterest ed ln our state unlverslty he had tlckets for a football game 1n the afternoon whlch made the tr1p doubly appeallng L1v1ng on an lsland the puplls of Vmalhaven Hlgh School do not have the opportunlty to appre clate our State of Mame and the h1gh er educatlon that lt offers Only three members of the class had ever vlslted a college campus Cltlzens of Camden met us at the boat wharf IH Rockland and drove us to Orono After we arrxved at the Unlverslty we were shown around the campus Thls lmpressed us very much We were fortunate to VlS1t the bookstore and the new llbrary The football game Unlversltv of Mame versus UHlV6FSltV of New Hampshlre was extremely excltmg slnce It was the first football game that most of us had attended There were mam students from other schools and smce It was also Fresh man s Parents Day there was a large crowd to the game We were all thr1ll ed when the Unlversltv of Mame won over the Unlversltv of New Hamp shxre After the game we went back to Camden for a dehghtful week end wlth Mr and Mrs Hall We V1S1t8d manv lnterestmg spots of our state Whlle we were there Some of v s cllmbed 'VIount Battle and others took a car and went to Fort Knox and Bar Harbor We certalnlx appreclate thls oppor tumtx whlch 'VIr and Mrs Hall made posslble for us and we are grateful for thelr graclous hospltalltv Senlor ECIIIZOI' n Y Q .
