THE EXILE Lztcrar Scctlon DARKNESS AND DUTY The ram came down 1n long narrow ribbons as Petty Offlcer Jlm Bow land of the Unlted States Coast Guard hurrled along the W1HdSW6pt bleak deserted beach toward the broken llght on Plnnacle Poxnt As he hurrled along h1s raln coat slapplng at hls legs he wondered why the hght had gone out at such a cru c1al tlme The Southern Belle was expected sometlme that nlght wlth a preclous cargo of sllver bulhon Could It be the work of the crooked salvage crew that had been worklng down the coast?
