M hk we ,,s W se Led by Coach Tom Lombardo, the Hawks had their best season ever, posting a 12-3-3 mark. They were co-city cham- pions and came in second to Farmington in the C.O.C. with a 7-2-0 mark. Defensively, Vinal had a fine sweeper back in Tri-Captain David Musumeci. Tri-Captain Sal DiMauro, a dynamic stop- per back, was able to generate instant of- fense while making tough strikes. The speed and toughness of wing fullbacks Tom Uhlaman and Daryl Michaud neutralized their opponents' effectiveness. Anchoring the defense was keeper Dean Sienna. Frank Milardo's skill and savvy helped him play center half. Joe Etheridge and Mario Saraceno played the mid-field with steadfastness. The Hawks had offensive balance. Scott Schenarts was a fine one-on-one player who finessed his way past many defenders while compiling the most team assists. Tri-Captain Gino Moncada scored 17 goals, and Dan Hooper scored 13. Seb DiMauro, a four-year player, showed his versatility along with Mark Etheridge, Guy Marino, and Ken Owens. Dave Musumeci, Gino Moncada, and Frank Milardo made the All-Conference Team, and Dave and Gino received honorable mention for the New Haven Registers All-State Team. Gino also made the C.l.A.C. in UNIOR VARSITY SOCCER The junior varsity soccer team played under the direction of Coach Tony Milardo. Although the teamis record did not in- dicate a very successful season point-wise, the Hawks nevertheless displayed a lot of en- thusiasm for the game. They increased their knowledge of basic skills and acquired many pointers on the field which will help them in the future. Coach Milardo was very understanding with his team since most of his players were playing for the first year. The highlight of the season was the last game played against Wilson which the Hawks won 7-0. All in all, the Hawks had given a few good teams a run for on their money by the end of the season. 1 2 4 1.
