Our My of (food JUST as Our Lady of Good Counsel has been called the Madonna of the Popes, she may rightfully be called the Madonna of Villanovans, for she is the adopted patroness of the Augustinian Order, our earthly guardians here at Villanova. It may seem strange that the devotion to Our Lady of Good Counsel should originate in Gennezzano, Italy, for this city was once the very center of paganism. Neverthe- less, shortly after Italy became Christian, the first Church in Gennezzano was dedicated to St. Mary, Lady of Good Counsel. As time passed the annual celebration honoring her became a tradition of the city. By 13 56 the Church, badly worn by its many years of service, was committed to the care of the Augustinian Fathers.
