In the few pages allotted, the Norseman staff has attempted to cram an entire school year in Norseman--66. We only hope a small portion of the school year has been captured for you to cherish. A N Village Woods Junior High Fort Wayne, Indiana Volume I 1966 Class participation is all a part of each day. Courtesy is not out of style. Lunch — a time for nourishment and a little relaxation. Viking spirit is everywhere. • - rn! The library offers opportunities for research and solitude to all students. 2 The interesting part of the school year. Mr. David Bvtrroff, Audio-Visual Director of East Allen County Schools, goes through the film library as he sets up his film distributing plan for that day. Arriving to accept new challenges. Mr. Carboni is seen in front of the school as he renders an important service to the Village Woods, raising the flag each day. Students chatter as they go on their way. Mr. Klopfenstein instructs pupils in the art of dissection in Biology. Mr. Hayes and his health students discover the amazing features of the body. Students Work Hard but Have Fun Maybe another Rembrandt will get a start in this art class. Mr. White explains the use of power tools. Ova principal, Mr. Lake Glendening helps students and teachers with their daily problems. His patience and kind manner make school a more pleasant place and make jobs easier for the students and teachers associating with him. He always has utmost in his mind the welfare of the student. Our number one fan is Mr. Glendening. He is always ready to extend a helping hand. Mr. Keith Greathouse counsels Viking students as one of his main tasks. One of his main duties is to help all students in planning their school programs. He is also active in Student Council and helps with the yearbook. Mrs. Cecil Andorfer can be found in her office as she offers guidance and supervision to many stu- dents. She is a genuine asset to Village Woods and is responsible for many of the activities of the stu- dents. She also helps with the yearbook. Activities: Experiences Mold Students The Student Council of 1955-66 includes a representa- tive of each home room. These people direct the Student Council. They are: Gary Snyder, President; Mark Chapman, V. President; Jackie Snyder, Secretary; and Rosalie Chapman, Treas- urer Varsity lettermen lead contributions for our Christ- mas families. Thousands of items were distributed to needy families. Student Council Engages in Many Worthwhile Projects Ideas are exchanged during a council meeting. 34 U U IN b K Those students who best display the qualities of leadership, scholarship, character, citizenship, and service are selected by the faculty every year. The faculty advisor is Mr. Arthur Lloyd. Shown above is the entire Junior Honor Society following the formal induction of new members in January of this year. Members of the Junior Honor Society sell votes to determine who will be the first Valentine Queen. The profits from the dance will be used to purchase a small award for those students who have made the Honor Roll for at least two years. The Viking Concert Choir performs many times each year before the students and other groups. The group has about 55 members and their music is indeed soothing. Mr. Flick is the conductor of this fine group. The elementary choir meets every day of the week during the fourth period. It serves as a training choir for the Concert Choir. Mr. Flick is the leader of this choir. 36 The Junior High Band, composed of over 70 members, is under the direction of Mr. Howard Lininger. This group meets every day the 7th period. Many times during the year this band presents its beautiful sounds to the student body and also plays at P.T.A. Music: Soothes the Soul m, • mt ' The Log Staff has worked hard this year putting out their newspaper. They met every week under the supervision of Mrs. Phillips. She directed the staff and helped the new members with writing style. The Log Staff plans a bigger and better paper for next year. J 111 is tt The student library assistants work at the circulation desk checking books in and out. They also help put up displays and can always be found reshelving books. They are an integral part of our modern library. The varsity lettermen help with the Christmas project and have several projects lined up for next year. 2 V s a .• . ATHLETICS I Village Woods Varsity Football team, coached by Mr. Null and Mr. Greathouse fought hard this season. After losing the first three games, they came on strong to capture the final three and end up with a 3-3 record. The season was highlighted by a 7-2 win over New Haven. The Junior Varsity team, coached by Mr. Light, reared over four straight opponents enroute to a perfect season. Congratulations boys. Vikings Fight Varsity Bluffton L Bishop Dwenger L Cen. T-Shirts (undershirt type) prohibited. 4. Metal heel and toe plates are prohibited. 5. Hair should be worn in a manner so it adds to one ' s appearance. Extreme hair styles do not add to the dignity or prestige of any student. 6. When the personal appearance of a student, either by dress or hair style, becomes conspicuous to teachers and student body, that student is not properly groomed. Some General School Regulations All students are to be ladies and gentlemen in that they observe the accepted forms of good behavior and respect for the rights of others. Students will not be allowed to chew gum during school hours. Students cannot remain in the building after school hours unless they are directly under the supervision of a teacher. No students in the junior high will be allowed to ride a motor bike or drive a car to school. Use of the office telephone is discouraged. Permission from the office must be obtained before using the phone. Trips to the dentist or doctor on school time are permissable if the principal is notified. Bus riders caruiot leave the school building at noon. Walkers may go home for lunch as long as they can do so in the time allotted. They cannot go anywhere except home. Pupils are required to have a corridor pass when leaving the classroom. Tardiness passes are issued from the office. The principal or guidance counselors will determine if the tardiness is excused or unexcused. An unexcused tardiness will cause 1% to be deducted from the student ' s 9 weeks grade in that subject to which he is tardy. In order to be excused from physical education classes for an extended length of time a written statement from a doctor must accompany the request. To get the most from school, one must have good attendance. When it is necessary for a pupil to be absent from school, we prefer that he bring a written excuse from home. If this is not possible he may fill out a Students Report of Absence Form. If for any reason a student finds it necessary to leave school during the day, he must secure permission from the office. A student returning to school during the day should report to the office. There are two types of absences- -excused and unexcused. In an unexcused absence 4% will be deducted from the student ' s 9 weeks grade for each day of absence. 47 The end of the school term is fast approaching and all Vikings can pause and recall many moments that happened during this past year. Assemblies, sports, dances, and other events have all left their marks on each of us. AH during the year teachers and students have worked to improve grades, school spirit and attitudes. Besides the hard work we have all endured, there has been plenty of fun in the classes and in after school activities. Mr. Glenden- ing has worked hard with the faculty and students to make the 1965-56 year at Village Woods more interesting and worthwhile. The custodians have kept our school clean, cooks have cooked our meals, secretaries have operated our office most efficiently, and the nurse has handled a multitude of problems. Therefore, each person in his own way has contributed to making Village Woods A great school, one which all of us are very proud of. These girls must now carry home books to prepare for what lies ahead. Another Day Ends at Village Woods The work day has just begun for our custo- dians. They must get the school ready for tomorrow. A long difficult day is over and its time to leave the hallowed halls until tomorrow. Sr- JJj,vV-. V, ' ii i . 48 HECKMAN m BINDERY INC. |§| APR 99 Bound -To -Pleas N.MANCHESTER, INDIANA 46962
