Compe- titions could be compared to intergalactic battles in space, Grueling matches set one school against another, Athletes were proud to serve their school, to exert, to strain, to push themselves beyond their capacity. Dedicated Spar- tans worked from daybreak to sunset to achieve maximum team performance as well as reaching personal victories. The effort was well worth it when the tattered, defeated opponent crawled off the field. The year ended the reign for some athletes, and left others with the thrill of competi- tion. All and all, the force was with the Spartans. Carol Baker strives to finish first. Coach Ehrlich explains strategy to waterpolo players, An injured player listens to the coaches' instructions. - i f g 6 1.11- 'T we TL.. .. WF J We've got spirit, yes we do! , constantly reverberated through the concrete bleachers despite a disappointing football season. The crowds were fired up and dedicated to the Big Blue Machine. Yes, our teams are all right! Spirit fueled our flight through the year. Though the competition was very close, Seniors were triumphant and tvt'A S'H- ed Hollywood and Disneyland. The class of 80 prevailed once again. After three days of rivalry between the classes, students were united together on Blue, Black and Silver day and Spartan pride was more than evident. We became a crew once more united on the journey through time. The seniors from '79 super-fine returned Friday and were an influential part of the homecoming game. The '78-'79 mascot Nancy Weneta once again led the crowds in chants and cheers and Donna Gibson, Villa Park's 1978 homecoming queen crowned Jodi Strauss as the reigning queen. Team performance was enhanced by a supportive student body who declared the Spartan way shall ring! 10 Theme 5 1. Onlookers actively participate in the pep 1 2 rally, 7 2. Benchwarmers are engrossed in the game. Jason Groom and John Jory await the signal to play. Craig Aldrich declares Grant Robinson victorious. Dan King and Bill Bland haven't heard the latest joke.
