Compe- titions could be compared to intergalactic battles in space, Grueling matches set one school against another, Athletes were proud to serve their school, to exert, to strain, to push themselves beyond their capacity. Dedicated Spar- tans worked from daybreak to sunset to achieve maximum team performance as well as reaching personal victories. The effort was well worth it when the tattered, defeated opponent crawled off the field. The year ended the reign for some athletes, and left others with the thrill of competi- tion.
