Old songs are best-how sweet to hear the strains to home and memory dear . . . and rhyme, float us down the stream of time. 1911 .gn Clarence Urm y The times were filled with music. It was both a necessity and a luxury. There was a special pleasure found within its strain. lt could add to any mood, make the times come alive. A hard rocking song blasting out the windows was perfect for that mood, while a bit of Bach or Bluegrass may have seemed just the thing. Everyone made his own music in his own way. There were those who could sing out rich and clear. And there were those who didn't have such talents, yet sung anyway just for that pleasure. If singing wasn't the thing, perhaps it was whistling, or wildly tapping out the beat on whatever was handy. There were also a certain few who performed music. Plinking away at the piano, trying for one note higher on a trumpet, or just getting that tuba part to sound perfect were their goals. When these goals were achieved, the players were brought together to bring forth their kind of music for everyone's enjoyment. Music was found everywhere. At lunch, a student plucked his guitar. During a pep rally, pep band played the fight song. While in class, one's mind drifted back to that one song that made the last weekend's dance so special. Music affected each in a different way, adding a touch of warmth to the year. ret? '.'1.!'9'4i.'. 14 Theme

,l ll ,l Smiles. Laughter. Tears. Thrills. Spirit rushed in with the new school year, enveloping everyone in its path. The loyal Blue, Black, and Silver became a symbol of pride - pride in the best that could be. No one could escape the flood of enthusiasm. Everyone got involved. The class of 79 was super-fine. lt was eight-O, let's go! While the class of 81 had a lot of fun. The crowd yelled at Pep rallies and cheered at games, pushing on spartan athletes- feeling the exhilara- tion of victories as well as the disappointments of defeats. Life was exciting- each moment more suspenseful than the next-rushing on faster and faster with barely enough time to take it all in. The smiles were for the crazy people who dressed up on spirit daysg the laughter for the ridicu- lous skits and the people who participated in them. Tears were for an important win or friend's good fortune, while the thrills were for the everyone as the Alma Mater was sung with pride by those who knew the words, and hummed respectfully by those who didn't.
