Everyone loved those busy times, but it was the quiet, un- hurried times that helped each person make it through the year. Having a chance to sit for an hour, reflecting on the day, or dreaming of a Saturday night date was a rare thing, but they were needed to maintain one's sanity. Sometimes it was impossible to squeeze the therapeutic hour out of a cluttered week. There were two tests and a quiz that Friday and a quarter project due that Thursday. Even the surprise birthday party for a favorite teacher seemed to be too much to handle that same week. And yet everyone survived. It had become a challenge to find a moment of peace and quiet. Some did find it under a tree in the afternoon sun, while some found it on a front porch on a dark, breezy night. The year was long, yet short. There was much time, yet no time at all. Some achieved it and some came close. It was peace of mind. The silent touches of time. E. ,l ll ,l Smiles. Laughter. Tears. Thrills. Spirit rushed in with the new school year, enveloping everyone in its path. The loyal Blue, Black, and Silver became a symbol of pride - pride in the best that could be. No one could escape the flood of enthusiasm. Everyone got involved. The class of 79 was super-fine. lt was eight-O, let's go! While the class of 81 had a lot of fun. The crowd yelled at Pep rallies and cheered at games, pushing on spartan athletes- feeling the exhilara- tion of victories as well as the disappointments of defeats. Life was exciting- each moment more suspenseful than the next-rushing on faster and faster with barely enough time to take it all in. The smiles were for the crazy people who dressed up on spirit daysg the laughter for the ridicu- lous skits and the people who participated in them. Tears were for an important win or friend's good fortune, while the thrills were for the everyone as the Alma Mater was sung with pride by those who knew the words, and hummed respectfully by those who didn't.
