Yes, that's true for now, not like fifty years ago, the Villa girls have a share in the governing of the school. Our Student Coun- cil develops co-operation, leadership, loyalty, and good citizenship. The Student Council is more than a group of girls who tell one to be quiet in study-hall, or check one on the stairs. These girls plan social affairs for the entire student body: they voice their ideas and form a level bridge between the Sisters and the students. We believe the Student Council has helped to make the Villa the Wonderful school it is today. 5 v , 1 1 4 l l l I y l l 1 A 5 . The lovely old fairy tale Sleeping Beauty was drarnatized and, under the direction of Miss McGregor, an excellent production was staged. Miss Irene taught the girls their beau- tiful dances. Long after the lights faded and the grease paint was washed off, the pleasant memories of practice and the big night lingered in the minds of all the Seniors. .wg ' 4' tha i yi 'ff -,me at 1.-., .ff ..,--B it mia: 19, fit '5 '-, I y I l , i 5 I Q t'.' 1 7.11.-346 Ll Charlotte Clare Eckland - 9 Hattie Larkin - ll Sally Flemming - I9 Marvene Levy T7 I F JI A , liz-' Ly wfi' ,1 , 1 1 ,fry-'l i A I t T 1- . 4r.4'f'::l?4s '1'Y ' , i at ' ff'-V d f ' 'im X 4!'B'f,,. , ,. . , , Qin. 2' fffxaiig' THE VALENTINE PARTY At two-thirty on Tuesday afternoon February 14, the high school and seventh and eighth grades pushed noisily into the gym. In the midst of chattering and laughing a sudden hush fell over the crowd as the Valentine royalty was revealed. Enthusiastic applause and a song of congratulations honored Her Highness, Iean Sadler, Queen of Hearts, and her attend- ants, Kathleen Crimmins and Sally Flemming as they took their places on the thrones before the curtain. After the Queen had been crowned by Patty Io O'Brien she led the grand march around the gym and into the cafeteria where brownies, dixie-cups, and pop were the tasty refreshments served. Canasta was played and assorted prizes awarded. It was a Valentine party with some delightfully new twists, and one which brought an afternoon of long-remem- bered enjoyment. an X 'X l Fix R633 THE SENIOR TEA The Villa Senior Tea has become a tradition: consequently, students, as well as friends of the school, live in happy anticipation of the affair. In a certain sense, this year's tea was a departure from the past since it was held in Short Hills Country Club, instead of at the home of a class member. Attendance was most grati- fying and guests enjoyed meeting friends and chatting over their tea cups. Mothers of officers of various groups presided at the table, which was adorned with beautiful autumn blooms. Mothers also assisted their daughters in the bakery, candy, and gilt booths. The program of the afternoon con- sisted of a review of small children's styles: the performance having been televised in advance. 9 4 . l' Hgp ll' W' 1 ,., ,r .qu f. ' 0 L A k A a 09' X E 6 ,o I. In November, rehearsals got under way for our Christmas play. This year we presented a series of still-life representations depicting the Nativity, seen through a picture frame: colored lighting distinguished the pic- tures and made them appear to be illustrations one might see in a book. It was all very dif- ferent and very lovely. 4.52 JS ,QS G-J L-J LJ 1 Fifth and Sixth Grades As always, these young ladies of the fifth and sixth grade excelled in their Christmas carolling. Although the girls take their studying seriously, they manage to be experts in jumping rope, kick ball, baseball, and tag. In the winter months they cut some fancy figures on the ice. i f 1 DS '56 S!-'J The Fourth Grade Class Among their activities this year the fourth grade purchased many pagan babies. They also did more than their share of selling Holy Childhood seals. The generosity of these fourth grade pupils is also shown in the class room where every student adds her knowledge to make their fourth year a scholastic success. This jolly room is made up of ambitious, joyful youngsters. The walls have ears so they say: and if that's true, these four walls would have quite a tale to tell of little children. The Third Grade The third graders have proven themselves very capable and conscientious throughout the year. These little lassies made very charming angels in the Villa Christmas play and their lovely gracefulness was outstanding in the intricate figures they executed in their May Day Dance. Sister Mary Rita, their class teacher, feels they have progressed nicely through- out the year in studies as well as in art. Working or playing, these little misses put their heart and soul into whatever they are doing. The Villa is going to be very proud of the new fourth graders in the fall of 1950. r' .5', '..' wif Kindergarten Yes, we hear the patter of little feet, busy feet of boys and girls, divide by two. We have 40 pupils in our graduating class of '50. Playing, working, and learning together, they have spent happy hours with Miss Pat. Now, prepared for first grade, these children have already been given a start in living their own lives to a successful end, through their experi- ence in adapting themselves to their neighbors and still retaining, each, his or her own indivi- dual personality.
