Many thrng have happened durung the past ten years ln l96l I was promoted to chnef engmeer of the Atomrc Automotrve Drvrsron of the Oklahoma Atomrc Engrneerlng Company Shortly after my apparntment I was called unto Presrdent Bellows offrce to meet hrs new secretary Nancy Long who was takrng the place of Betty Karr who left to be marrred to a sarlor Whale tourrng the varrous plants of the company wrth Mr Bellows we decrded to stop at the testing grounds One of our top engrneers and mathematrcrans Norrrs Edson had designed and supervised the burld mg of an entrrely new and revolutuonary Snpersomc Srxteen one ofthe best of the atomic-powered ccrs I was utterly astonrshed when I saw the drrver who had been puttrng the car through such trrcky maneuvers Of course rt was another Vilas alumnus Duck Savory We talked for awhrle and then we walked back to Muck ey s offrce where I recerved another surpnse Berng rntervrewed for a salesman s 'ob was none other than Vernard Hurd Vernard has been an the state legrslature for a number of years He convrnced Mr Bellows that he wcs the only person qualrfred to extol the vrrtues of the company s products The company has recently helped fanance the burldrng of a new hosputal rn Tulsa, and srnce we were the mam rnvestors Mr Bellows and I vrsrted there to drscuss the need for another plece of new equrpment We were told that the Supervrsor of Nurses would show us through the varrous burldrngs and we were both sur prrsed and pleased to see Sydney Butler We were duscussrng schoaldays more than hospitals when we later ally ran rnto Ginny Campbell speedrng down the corrrdor wrth an armful of photographic supplles After we helped puck up both Grnny and the supplres she Informed us that she rs now marrred but rs workrng part trme as an X Ray techmcran We returned to Sydney s offoce and were served refreshments by her secretary Bonnre Monty One of my frrst dutres rn my new posutron was to attend several busrness meetrng one rn Chicago and one rn Boston The trrp turned out to be a partral reumon of the class of '55 To begun wrth on purchasrng my trckets I drscavered that Marrlyn Robre was workrng as the arrlmes travel agent With some time to spare, I wandered around the arrport and met Elgrn Russell who rs workung as a mechamc The attractrve stewardess who showed me to my seat on the plane was another old frrend Marran Tuthrll She further astounded me by the rnformatron that Donny Wmharn was a prlot for TWA, and that Kay Allen wer also workmg on the same arrlrne as a stewardess Whrle rn Chrcago I was oblrged to vrsrt the offrce of the Department of ruculture where June Crocker was workmg as receptronrst I was shown unto the offrce and recognlzed the executive seated behind the desk rx Paul Putnam Paul has been a very actrve member In the freld of agriculture Leavrng Chncago I flew directly to Boston where I had an Important meeting wrth one of our eastern lawyers Before we had done much talkrng the lawyer s wrfe walked rn By this time nothing could amaze me but I was nevertheless plecsed to see Hazel Pettersen She had been her husband s secretary for a few years but then decrded that she would luke to do the dlctatrng for a change To end my trrp I went to see a baseball game and also the manager of the Boston Red Sox Tom Heywood Seerng so many former classmates convrnced me that l should check on the remarmng members of the class I never dreamed thus search would take me to Italy where Dorrs Fuller rs teachrng Englrsh rn a unrversrty and Isabel Buffum IS temporarr ly stationed wrth the WAVES Melvrn Bean IS strll In the alr f0rCe and from all reports rs makrng quite a career of rt Of the entrre class only one seems to be stall lrvlng rn her home town Paulrne Pore IS married and Irv :ng rn Alstead The basketball fans wull be pleased to know that Grass Grrffrn rs playrng for the natronally famous New York Knrckerbockers If you have attended many movres recently you wall notrce that makeup as under the supervrsronof .leanne better known to us as Jean Pratt The last person an the class that I contacted was Wrllram Wood I learned that he rs currently breakmg all speed records at the Daytona Beach Florrda race track I m sure thatthrs report wr ll be of Interest to you and possnbly the faculty of Vrlas Ps the result of our hugh school trarnrng each of the members of the class of 55 has achieved success In hrs or her chosen freld Best wishes from a former graduate, 21 Ball Batchelder - 1 . . . , . . 1 1 1 1 - - 1 ' 1 I ' . . . . . . ,, . , . 1 1 - 1 ' , . . . . . . ,. . . . .. . , . . .. . . . , . .
