Trees. in Y, Pirate Ship On Even Keel It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. Charles Dickens thoughts can usually serve to describe any particular school year, but 1986-87 had a generous number of bests. After a summer of upheaval, Robert Madding took the reins as V.H.S.'s new principal and guided the Pirate ship into smooth water. It was the best of times for the seniors who were to wind up a 12 year journey through education, for the juniors and sophomores, it meant were settling into a comfortable place on campus. For the freshmen, it was a combination - both exhilarating and frightening. It was the worst of times for those who found themselves on the wrong side of the law as administered by the assistant principals. SAC moved into isolation across Orange Street and the Alternative School geared into new stringent requirements. Despite the restrictions of HB 72, the VHS students still found energy for sports, Brigs, band, U.I,L. competitions, fund-raisers and spirit activities. The year can be summed up in the senior motto, Live for today, look for tomorrow but always remember yesterdayf r
