■ THESE STEPS . . . the desire of each underclassman. Contents Foreword Originally the name Victory High School was chosen to symbolize the victory of the Allies in World War I. Through the years this name has come to mean much more. It now suggests achievement through great effort, scholarship through discipline, friendship through understanding, and loyalty through spirit. We prepare this yearbook in the hope that it will serve as a constant reminder to all of the high ideals of our school. Let it also be a symbol of dignity, honor, and respect so that one day we may open this book and say with pride THIS IS VICTORY Susan Yerkey, Editor-in-Chief David Rebrook------ Elaine Griffith - - -Nola Tarantino — -Dave Dewez--------- STAFF Julie Alasky Mike Allen Alice Barberio Robert Christafore Mark Fairman Marilene Johnston Debi Layfield Allen Lowther Neil Maxson Joey Mustachio Randy O’Field Jeanne Sanjulian Deborah Washington Associate Editor Sports Editor Copy Editor Business Manager Student Photographer 4 r OPTIC STAFF 1971 5 GUIDANCE . . . THE GOLDEN ARM Within our midst there is a forgotten woman who has counseled the students of Victory High School for many years. Although she spends most of her time at Victory, her guidance and help are known both far and near. Wherever a person might mention her name, there is always someone whose life she has touched in some way. Her services to our school, community, and state are innumerable. Her dedication to her work is unyielding. And so, with all these things in mind, we, the Optic Staff of 1971, dedicate this yearbook, with our most sincere gratitude, to Mrs. Christine McCuskey, our guidance counselor. HP 10 Even as I dream of you again, V ictory. With your huddled rooms at dawn Growing large with the sadness of ghostly crowds; It seems as though I am with you. Taking off my overcoat. And if I listen closely I can hear the creaking and moaning of your edifice. Grown classic with age. u I find some comfort in these passing memories. Again, the halls and rooms sighing chorally, repeat their common and seemingly ago-old story. And everywhere your seasonal winds float through your lofty corridors. Again at lunch-time I recollect the liveliness of your students in lighted doorways, like roaming gypsies, With occasional teachers passing through. Confusion, Laughter, Unity. THIS IS VICTORY. 13 Dreary as the day may seem, dear old Victory, I can remember you and match my memories to your sights, smells, and noises. To the giant learning going on inside you. I can remember you and be reminded of the unique manner by which you have influenced my life, Making me what I am and what I hope to be. To an Eagle____ THIS IS VICTORY. 15 Ill iwiMi i . !
