Signed, published and acknowledged by Norita Kooken Poling and Patricia Ann Wetzel as for their last wills, in the presence of us, who, in our presence and in the presence of each other; and at each request have here unto subscribed our names as witnesses. Bob Daugherty Charles Garrett Don Leasure CLASS PROPHECY Since we are living in the modern age, let us enter a time machine, set the dial for twenty years into the future and see where our many classmates are and what they are doing. Well, here we are in the year of 1973. Can it be that a town could change so much in such a short time? There are many new buildings in the up-town section of the city. That building looks like a hospital. Why, it is! Let’s go inside and see if we can recognize any of the faces. Could the man in white coming down the hall really be James Schmidt? Yes, it is! He is going into the operating room. Standing at the work table making tests is none other than Ruth Gulas, the medical technologist. The doctor’s two assistants have just entered the room. They are Betty Tasker and Frank Lucente. They have both become successful doctors. My, they must be going to perform a delicate operation to have so many skilled doctors on the same case. Why there is June Mearns, the laboratory technician. Shhh! The nurses are bringing in the patient now! I recognize some of the nurses. They are Mildred Anderson, Mary Ann DeMicco, Margaret Haney, Marchetta Moats, and Faye Weekley. My goodness, the patient is Richard Vassar. It seems that he had a wreck while trying to exceed the speed of gossip in his Ford Truck. While coming around a curve, Richard cut on the wrong side of the road and hit a telephone pole. The jar caused him to crack his mondulla oblongata against the steering wheel, and this caused the lower membrane of his cerebrum to twist around the cerebellum and oh my what an operation! This is too nerve wrecking, let's leave. On the way out of the hospital we see many more nurses. Of course, we know most of them. They are Alberta Lawson, Barbara Linsbeck, Beverly Linsbeck, Mary Calafatis, and Mary Tate. Outside the hospital are the two famous undertakers Tom Sharpe and Joe Simonette. They must not have much faith in the doctors. As we walk on down Main Street, we see a modern night club. The sign on the door says Bob Daugherty's Stork Club.” Shall we go inside? No, let's peep in the window. Inside behind the bar is the world’s greatest bartender, John Welks. He seems to be only serving himself. Back in the corner are the two pool sharks, Gus Alastanos and Bob Townsend. Naturally, they are shooting a game of pool. In the center of the room, is Mike Audia playing the piano while Hester Martin sings that torchy song Chew Chlorphyll, Then Kiss Me! ’’ Accompaning them is that famous ac-cordian player, Charles Robilliard. On down the street we see Ralph Anguilli's Barber Shop. Why it looks like he is trimming Abraham Lincoln’s beard. Oh, my mistake, that is Jerry Skinner. Next we pass a dentist’s office. Roy Phillips is waving to us out the window. No, wait a minute, he is motioning for us to come in. No, thank you! Across the street is the movie house. George Reed, the famous cowboy, with his singing guitar is starring in Sheba, Where Art Thou? Beside the Theatre is Ralph Matthey's Sporting Goods Center. There is Otto Matheny selling newspapers. He works for Carl Riley, the owner of the Rose City Printing Company in Charleston. Okey Kimberling does the photography for the paper. Let’s buy a paper and see what is going on throughout the world. The headlines say Caussin Wins In Presidential Election. (See, Miss Gray said that women would be taking over in politics.) Yes, Janet Caussin defeated Connie Evangelinos in the election. I guess Connie won't be driving his pink Cadillac convertible anymore. Janet chose Carol Youmans as her private secretary. Here it says that David LeFevre, the former president of the Adamston Flat, has trapped five more elephants. David is now a professional guide in Africa, but in his spare time he traps animals for Chuck Moore, who bought Clyde Beatty's Circus. David's brilliant assistant is Robert Knight. Here is a picture of Connie Garcia. I wonder what she has done. Why it says that she is the first woman to make a successful trip to Mars. Some friends she took with her were Patty Greynolds, Teresa Mae Perri, Cora Ann Reider, Betty Short and Anna Pearl Wilt. They all said it was the most exciting experience they have ever had. They plan to go to Jupiter on the next trip. Looking on through the paper we see that a great soil conservationest has invented a new kind of soil. He claims that this soil will not get your hands dirty. He is none other than Dan Janicak. Jack Hart, a forest ranger, claims that this soil is very good for putting out forest fires. In the social column I see that Rose Marano has gone to California. Some friends with her are Shirley Currey, Anna Derby, Marlene Fontaine, Barbara Golden, and Ella Jean McElroy. Judy Rebrook, the world famous artist, has just finished her picture, The Vase That Lost Its Flowers. She plans on entering it in the European contest. Roy Pratt is now a general in the army, and Frank Smith is the head potato peeler. Both boys were always ambitious in school. Frank Pulice now owns a modeling school. At the present time he has 50 models. Some familiar ones are Norma Canfield, Patty Lamm, Barbara Lantz, and Janice Holder. Claude Amsler, Duane Knight, George Liptak, John White, and Charles Hannah got together and started an Airline Transportation Corporation. They hired as airline hostesses Anna Mae Fowler and Mary Robey. James Hamilton was with this corporation, but he retired at the age of thirty with $40 million. His partners can't figure out how he got so much money when the profits were shared equally. Eddie Ash is now the chief engineer of the Meyer and Shinn Railroad Company. Yes, Lowell Meyer and Robert Shinn bought the B O Railroad in 1967. Ted Hupp, Harold Stewart and Ralph Thrasher have also become successful engineers. Ted is a petroleum engineer and is now down in Texas drilling for petroleum. Harold Stewart is a mechanical engineer and is now working on a robot that can eat, sleep, walk, and talk. Ralph Thrasher is an aeronautical engineer and is building a space ship to travel to the moon. Eleanor Bolle has made a great name for herself as a flag-pole sitter. She has sat in the United States, China, Japan, and is now going to South America. What say we hop a hot rod (that's the way they travel now days) and go visit dear old Victory. Well, here we are, (Those hot rods are mighty fast!) By the way the greatest hot rod ever built was constructed by our very own Dominick Jerome. Bobby Flanagan, the speedster, is at the present time entering the world's race in South America. He has won four straight. Those that helped Dominick build this hot rod were the great mechanics Gordon Bowman, Donald Coloccia, Robert Flint, and James Griffith. The two Machinists that helped them were Robert Barnes and James Rogers. Now let's go in the school to see how the things have changed. It seems as though there has been a change in the faculty here. (Is it really possible?) Emily Mullens is teaching the senior English classes, while Patty Wetzel struggles with the modern problems class. Helen McCarty is teaching the sophomore girls how to can tomatoes. My, my what a mess. Natch, she is the Home Ec. teacher. Barbara Williams is lying on the gym floor. I wonder why she is doing that? Oh, I see, she is the gym teacher and is teaching the girls how to swim. It is not so dangerous that way; no danger in anybody's drowning. Of course, you all remember Dale Wheeler. He was the boy who remained in the Biology class for so long that the kids thought he was the teacher. He liked the feeling, so he went through college (with a shove and a kick) and is now teaching Victory's Biology class. Wilma Randolph is in charge of the math department. I hear Barbara Martin is teaching the second grade at Adamston Junior High. Don Kopp is Victory's new coach, and he seems to be having pretty good season. His daughter is one of the cheerleaders, and naturally she looks just like Beverly Wyckoff. Charles Wells is the coach at Washington Irving and Clifford Jones is coaching the Roosevelt-Wilson's squad. Charles Garrett is now the star pitcher for the Cleveland Indians and Harold Wilhelm is the sensational quarterback on the Notre Dame team. The noon bell has rung and all the kids are running across the street to Jack Patterson's Snack Bar. Some of the clerks working in Jack's Snack Bar are Nancy Amsler, Ruth Chipps, and Mary Ann Hayes. Beside Victory High School is Romain’s Grocery Store. Yes, Raymond bought Lawson's Market a couple years ago and is doing quite well. In the store marketing are the former Patty Dennison, Barbara Gould, Patty Husk, Norita Kooken, Corinne Lawrence, Nada Montgomery, Altha Powell, Janice Gill, Barbara Ritter, Helen Sakaley, Vicky Secreto, Connie Marshall, Joyce Shreve, Jean Stewart, and Elizabeth Stier. They are all discussing the handsome young Fullerbrush man who is Robert Kerns. (See Robert that Salesmanship will come in handy!) On down Pike Street is Martha Hammond’s Beauty Shop. There is Nancy Zeck walking in the frontdoor. Yes, Nancy alwayswas a brave girl; never feared a thing. Don Leasure's Pharmacy is a new attraction on the street. I hear that Jerry Robey, John Simonette, Guy Ventura and Robert Wetzel now have their own television program. (Radio is definitely out of date) They are known as the Slaphappy Quartet . Their sponsor is James McCoy, the proprietor of the Waldo Loafing Association. Probably James's best customers are Gerald Bailey, Ted Been, Mike Faherty. Richard Wilson, Bill Parker, John Plivilick, and Kelcel Reed. Loafing alwayswas their speciality. Some other famous television stars are Charles Brown, the sport's announcer, Carl Carr, the tap dancer, Eddie Duncan, the second Johnny Ray. Vance Fisher, the hypnotist. Bill Flowers, the comedian, and that popular singer, Andrew Greaver, who hit the world like a ton of bricks. David Fernandez, the rich cattleman from Texas, now owns the Double Bubble Soap Company and sponsors the program John’s Other Horse . Gene Hickman stars as John and Betty Short plays the part of the other horse. The quartet that sings the commercials are Franklin Hurst, Eugene Kight, James Lovell, and Dominick Marano. Jimmie Fianettino has worked his way up the ladder of success from an electrician to the owner of the United States Electric Supply Company. He is claimed to have more secretaries and stenographers than any other businessman in the world. Some of them are Jean Cutlip, Carole Drumpus, Jeannette Pierce, Imogene Sirk, and Mary Jayne Snodgrass. His most efficient stenographers are Etta Jane Ervin, Jo Griffith, and Dorothy Shipplett. His modern building was designed by none other than Bobby Ash the famous draftsman. Glen Perine has become a successful lawyer. His secretary is Teresa Ann Perri, and Nancy Moore is his filing clerk. Well, time has run out and we must hurry back to the machine to go back to the year of 1953. After all, we don't want to be stranded here in the future do we?................. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We, the senior class of '53 arrived at Victory High School on Tuesday, September 6, 1950. We heard Principal, Edward Powell, successor to Miss Lucy Bailey, make the opening address. Most of us realized that the years ahead of us could be the best years of our lives if we would only make them so. September 15 came. This was the night of the Sophomore party, which was held in the school gymnasium. This was an evening of enjoyment, having fun and getting acquainted for both students and faculty. A short time later a class meeting was held in which we elected our class officers. GEORGE LIPTAK was chosen president; TED HUPP, vice president; TERESA MAE PERRI, secretary; and EDDIE DUNCAN, treasurer. It was believed that these officers would carry out the duties of their office and would do a good job. Our project for the year was selling magazine subscriptions. We sold a total of $1344. worth. Prizes were given to the three persons with the largest amount of sale . LE ANN HAMRICK took first prize, MARY CATHERINE BARBERIO the second, and DAVID FERNANDEZ the third. We elected BARBARA WILLIAMS, BEVERLEY WYCKOFF and NANCY ZECK as our class cheerleaders. Victory took the city championship that year and journeyed to Morgantown to participate in the State Tournament. The Easter Pageant was presented by the Sophomore class. Class Day was our next experience. This was our chance to move from the seats in the balcony to line the seats along the side down stairs. The seniors marched to the stage in their caps and gowns and we wondered how it would feel if we were they. The summer vacation passed and we returned to Victory as Juniors. Mr. Powell again made the opening address. Again it was time to elect our class officers. GEORGE LIPTAK was chosen president; TED HUPP, vice-president; PATTY HUSK, secretary; and EDDIE DUNCAN, treasurer. The junior class presented the Thanksgiving program, and it was time for our Christmas card sale to begin. A prize was given to the student with the largest amount of sales and was won by LE ANN HAMRICK. Our sale totaled approximately $800., and our profit was approximately $400. Before the Christmas holidays, we presented the Junior play, entitled, Swing Fever” directed by Miss Helen Xenakis. The National Honor Society initiated nine juniors in a candlelight ceremony. They were: JUNE MEARNS, RUTH GULAS, ELEANOR BOLLE, JANICE HOLDER, JOYCE SHREVE, JANET CAUSSIN, GEORGE LIPTAK, JAMES SCHMIDT, and BETTY ANN TASKER. The junior-senior prom was held on May 16, 1952, at the Stonewall Jackson hotel with Heinie Hammers orchestra furnishing the music. Class Day came again, and we finally moved into the senior seats in the auditorium and possessed the right to use the front steps. Another summer vacation passed and we entered Victory as seniors. Mr. Powell made the opening address. BARBARA WILLIAMS was chosen the senior cheerleader. We elected the senior class officers with GEORGE LIPTAK being chosen for the third consecutive year as president; TED HUPP, vice president; PATTY HUSK, secretary; and EDDIE ASH, treasurer. The National Honor Society on October 10, 1952, initiated sixteen seniors. They were: PATTY WETZEL, PATTY HUSK, ROSE MARANO, TED HUPP, MARY JAYNE SNODGRASS, BARBARA RITTER, EDDIE DUNCAN, CONNIE MARSHALL, GEORGE REED, ANNA MAE DERBY, ANNA MAE FOWLER, BARBARA MARTIN, JEAN CUTLIP, BARBARA LANTZ, PATTY LAMM and RICHARD VASSAR. We ordered our rings in October 1952 and received them in December. In the meantime we were being scheduled by Sayre’s Studio to have our pictures taken. On December 17, 1952, we held the senior Christmas party in the school gymnasium. We were entertained by games and dancing. The Christmas play was given by the seniors on December 19 at the regular assembly hour. On May 8 the senior class presented the annual play. On May 12 the senior banquet was held at Westminister Hall. An enjoyable evening was spent by all who attended. On May 16, the annual junior-senior prom was held at the Stonewall Jackson hotel. May 22, was a very special day for all those who were graduating for it was on this day that we, the senior class of '53 donned our caps and gowns and moved to the stage. We also saw the future seniors occupy our seats and hoped that they would carry on the duties and traditions of Victory high with a sense of pride and honor in order that they might have the satisfaction of a job well done when commencement rolls around for them. On May 24, the senior class heard the Baccalaureate sermon delivered by the Rev. Denver Miles, pastor of the Adamston Evangelical United Brethem Church. The event took place at eight o’clock in the school auditorium. At last, the long awaited day has dawned. We, the seniors, attended our commencement with a mixture of e-motions; that of sadness upon leaving the school, faculty and friends whom we respect and love so dearly. Then too, we had a feeling of happiness for a job which, on the whole, was accomplished well. We hope that in traversing life’s highway that we will do an even better job. The event was held on May 27 at eight o'clock in the school auditorium.
