SENIOR CLASS HISTORY September 5 1948 arrived with its surprlse packages for everyone especially the boys and girls who were entering Victory H1gh School as sophomores The very first day we heard Prlncipal Lucy Barley give her openlng address and many of us realized that the years that lay before us could be good years lf we worked hard After the exc1tement of getting our books and trying to find the rrght class rooms had ended the n1ght of September 13 came It was the night of the Sophomore Class Party in the gym when the sophomores could get to know their fellow classmen and the faculty This was the first time a party of this type was ever given We elected Robert Lee Moore as class pres1dent James Hufford vice president Joe Mancina secretary and John Roach treasurer of our class Our next project was the magazine sale from which we made a profit of S377 67 Rose Marie Mazza won a wrist watch first prlze for selllng S65 65 worth of sub scriptions and Robert Lewls Moore received S5 OO for selling S54 30 worth of sub scr1pt1ons We elected Robert Lew1s Moore as our cheerleader Frank G1aqu1nta Joe Mancina Robert Lee Moore Pete Perri Charles Radcllff Dick Bramer and Charles Medina played their first football for Vrctory Joe Mancina Paul Wayne Haggerty Frank Glaquinta Joe Tenda and Robert Lewls Moore were the outstanding players on our re serve team Class Day was next when we moved up to the jun1or seats and watched the senlors march out 1h the1r caps and gowns Many were 1mag1n1ng what they would look like when it came their time to wear a cap and gown When the summer months ended we returned to Victory as juniors We elected Joe Mancina presrdent Robert Lee Moore v1ce pres1dent Glorla Menendez secretary and Dick Ritter treasurer of our jun1or class We gave the Thanks iving program this year and were proud of it The Christmas season was not far of and we began our Christmas card sales We made S278 75 profit on the cards Martha Tate won first prize S5 OO for selling 45 boxes of cards Leah Skinner received S2 50 second prize for selling 15 boxes of cards In November we presented the Junior Play Whiz gigs by Jay Tobias It was di rected by Miss Helen Davlsson The play A Ngtg tg Myself was given too The varsity team had several jUh1OIS on lt for there were only two senior players Paul Wayne Haggerty Frank nConky' G1aqu1nta Joe Tenda Bob Lee Moore Eugene Roach Jack Ewart John Moats Harry Stout and Charles Radcliff In April we were all very much saddened by the death of our beloved prrncipal Miss Lucy Bailey Everyone felt the loss acutely but Mr Bernard Sulllvan acted as a most eff1c1ent prlncipal for the rest of the year Mary Jo Martin entered our class from Huntington Central Hlgh School Nancy Jo Tipper was our representative to Girl's All State Joe Mancrna and Robert Lee Moore went to Boy's State The Junior Senior Prom was held May 19 1950 at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel The senior class were our guests Hienre Hammel's orchestra played for the dance The crowd was enterta1ned by the antics of the boys who were hypnotized by Mr Roy Miller Another class day and this time we all moved up into the senior seats We then were allowed to go out the front door for the rest of the year How proud we were to walk down those steps legally for the f1rst time There were eight junlors 1n1t1ated 1nto the National Honor Society They were Nancy Jo Tipper Faire Marie Westfall Rose Marle Mazza Peggy Evans Joe Mancina, Herbert Frashuer Robert Lee Moore and James Hufford Then at last our dreams were being reallzed We were now senrors We all were very glad to have Mr Edward Powell former prlncipal of Shinnston as our new prin cipal He 15 a graduate of Victory He has been dolng a wonderful J0b Of leading Victory Seven new members were added to our class th1s year They were Patricla Miller, Betty Lou Sm1th Charles Leeson Allen Stansberry Jean Johnson Donald Pllvelick and Joan McIntyre We now have two senior cheerleaders Robert Lewls Moore and Mary Jo Martin A Sen1or Party was held 1n the gym November 21 1950 The Mist etoe Hop was held at the Masonlc Temple w1th Bill Bookover's Orchestra Our sen1ors on the football team were Pete Perr1 Frank Gxaquinta Robert Lee Moore Charles Radcllff Charles Medlna Dick Bramer and Eugene Roach Joan Johnson re1gned as Queen at V1ctory's first Homecom1ng Game which was I ' I I 0 I I I I I I ' v . 1 D v ' . played with Buckhannon We ordered our holidays began M went around holding We elected Joe came vice presldent Sayre's Studio rrngs October 1950 and they arrived just before the Christmas Paul Hess was in charge of orderlng the rings All the seniors out their hands so the1r under classmen could see them Manc1na president again for the second year James Hufford be Gloria Menendez secretary and Herbert Frashuer treasurer was ready to take sen1or pictures Miss Eura Gray was in charge of making out the schedules Soon the students were bringing their pictures to school to show everyone Many passed out billfold pictures to their fellow classmen The Senior Council 15 composed of the class officers and the presidents of the senior homerooms Miss Candace Davls was 1n charge of the Christmas play 'What Do You Know About Christmas?' in which the senior cast explained the seven symbols of Christmas The varsity had a pretty good season winnlng the Section 6 and Region 2 tourna ments The stars of the team were Paul Wayne Haggerty Joe Mancina, Frankie 'Conky Giaquinta Joe Tenda Robert Lee Moore and Harry Stout Joe Mancina and Wayne Haggerty were the co capta1ns The team went to the second game in the state tour naments and were defeated by Beckley who won the state championship There are eight married g1rls 1n our class They are Ruth Ann Alton Ashcraft Delores Caldwell O'Field Peggy Haller Norman Joanne Huger Rebrook Sara Lane Wilson Dorothy Gray Fincham Delores McNemar Sh1pplet and Sue Ann Kidd The Natlonal Honor Soc1ety 1n1t1ated s1xteen sen1ors 1nto its society December 20 They are Sara Lane Wllson Peggy Haller Norman Loulse Hanna Barbara Insani Bett Abraham Mary Jo Martln Bernlce Dye Jack1e W1lson Lilia Bibbee Frances Find ey Emol1ne Bonnett Frenchalene Howell Ruth Lawrence Gloria Mememdez Gloria Wallace and Carroll Ph1ll1ps Nancy Jo Tlpper was chosen November's Girl of the Month by the Clarksburg's Wome Women's Club The Kiwan1s Club selects a boy of every month from Victory High School They chose Joe Manc1na in October James Hufford in November Herbert Frashuer in December, Robert Lee Moore in January Robert Lewis Moore rn February and Pete Perri in March Two more will be chosen before the end of the year Jack1e Wllson Rose Mar1e Mazza and Herbert Frashuer were chosen to represent Victory March 27 1951 for the c1ty's Student Government Day Jackle acted as Fire Capta1n Rose Marle as Street Superlntendent while Herbert took over the City Clerk's b o Two seniors 1n the journal1sm class Clara June Greene and Pe gy Evans were honored by be1ng accepted as members of the International Quill an Scroll Mrs Llllie Morgan was in charge of the Senior Play Ramsgcklg lgn a mystery play It was g1ven May ll 1951 Now at last graduatlon is at hand It is May 28 1951 a day all the students will remember forever AUTOGRAP I .I I ' .I'. . .
