This happens to many of our students. The VISD offers a variety of vocational programs to its junior and senior students. Basically the only difference between the various programs is the type of work involved in each. For instance, Distributive Educa- 3 tion fD.E.j relates to jobs in general retail selling, while the H.E.R.O. lHome ' Economics Related Occupationj club of- fers a wide range of jobs from the food industry to craftswork. To be in H.O.S.A. lHealth Occupation Students of Americaj, the student learns basic medical practices and must work at a doctor's office, hospital, nursing home or any other medical related job. Another choice, I.C.T. tlndustrial Cooperative Trainingj is more of an in- dividual study where the student learns about the particular occupation to which he is employed. lPlumbing, electrician, etc. ...j One other program that is of- ii'lii ,Vg fered at Victoria High School is V.O.E. IVocational Office Educationj. Everything from basic accounting pro cedures to preparing payroll is digested by the V.O.E. students. The members of this organization are employed as receptionists and secretaries for business firms throughout our community. Do you still find yourself a little confused? If so, why not make it a point to talk to the school's vocationa counselor, Mrs. Skipper. She can answer any questions pertaining to requirements and fees for a certain pro gram to which one holds an interest. Vocational education may not be the ideal choice for all students, bu those who do participate in one of the clubs find that the greatest thing earned through it is not just money, bu experience in the world of work. . 46 X seniors
