Season opens to victory! The Victoria High School Stingarees launched the 1981 football season at home in Memorial Stadium. Victoria's Iet Brown and Ieff Payne let nobody doubt their ability. They found the end zone quickly in the first quarter to propel the Stingarees to a 21-0 victory over Austin Anderson Trojans in the season opener for both teams. The final Sting touchdown came on another big play in the fourth quarter from Iunior Charles King whd snapped off a stunning 28-yard run. Senior place kicker Robert Vasquez nailed all three extra points in the game. Mighty Sting looks for an opening. Stings make the catch. Courtney Wash covers the ball to secure Sting possession. Big red-red hot! The red and white played the McCallum Knights of Austin. The Stings had their second straight comfortable win as they extended their early season record to a spotless 2-0. The Stings totally shut down their Austin hosts with a 31-7 slam. Victoria's first scoring drive began with Brown, Adams, and Furr, while a Vasquez kick tied the game at 7-7 in the first half. Adams and Brown, again along with Vasquez' extra point, drove the Stings to a 14-7 advantage. Midway in the third quarter Charles King added 5 more points and Vas- quez's kick gave the Stingarees a 21-7 lead. David Frost mov- ed the team up with Vasquez for a 24-7 lead.
