The sophomores raised the money to erect a monument bearing the name of the school on the front lawn of the campus. THE FINISHED PRODUCT . . . need we say more but Congrats and Thanks to the Sophs ' 62. LINDA FAGAN, sophomore, high- lighted the festivities of the Christmas season as she sang with the Ralph Galvan Orchestra at the Christmas Dance. 40 Activities SOPHOMORE AND FRESHMAN ALIKE together met in grand spirit at the out door pep rally held before the Del Mar game. BEAT DEL MAR! and we did and the victory- dance was as lively as the game. VICTORY? The basketball team won this one and Terri Dale Newman seems overjoyed but why is Frank Pickens so skeptical? 41 WISH AWAY THE WISHING WELL seems to be the attitude of these sophomores, Peggy Tolbert, Frank Pickens, and Tom Mills along with Student Council sponsor Miss Louise Hume as they try to decorate for the spring formal. HERE IS TERRI DALE NEWMAN as she was crowned Basketball Sweet- heart during halftime ceremonies at the Del Mar game. Presenting Terri with the award and kiss are Captains Don Winegar and Frank Pickens. Say, who braved the storm for this picture? THE PRIDE OF THE SOPHS— Who can say more than thanks for a job well done to the Sophomore class of 1962. The name marker added much to the campus. VICTORIA C0UI8 % i m kA-i: -l 1 FOOLS OR GENIUS— Seems there are always a couple of people like these shown who are always studying . . . why? SPEECH CHOIR— The Christmas Ac- tivities at V ' .C. were further graced by the activities of the speech choir, here performinj; at the First Methodist Church. S ' HOA, BOSSY! These girls at the Western Week picnic were all oluntarj- I?) contestants in the cow milking contest. From those luzzled expressions they look as if they don ' t know which end is up. FRESHMAN PICNIC— But why the sophomores? June Her- ring and John Kiesling seem to have busted up the exclusive freshman rights to picnic while Paula Pribyl seems to have lost her partner. WESTERN EEK ASSEMBLY. All the cowpokes and cowgirls gather here to hear Mr. Collins and the band. JUST HUNGRY! All the cowboys of Western Week managed to sit down here without much gunplay to eat bar-b-que like civilized folk. FRESHMAN PICNIC— Not a remnant of the food left as the activities of the picnic begin with dancing on the slab. DANCE AWAY. Seems too crowded to dance away anywhere but, nevertheless, the Christmas Dance was a great success. INVASION? No, just Career Day when all the little high schoolers came to inspect V.C. and to see real college life. EASTER I ' AGEANT. The Victoria Col- lege Choir and Band perform in concert at an Easter program open to the pub- lic. CHOIR PERFORMING— Mrs. Ruth Williams conducts the Victoria College Choir as they perform for the visiting students at Career Day. LET ' S NOT FIGHT! After all, we ' re almost not freshmen anymore. Ronnie Green, Carl Bellis, Linda Hausman, Joe Albrecht, Keith Markley, Iris Kalich and Paula Pribyl seem to be at some disagreement about the choice of records. PICKENS RESIGNS— Frank Pickens hands the gavel of the Student Council to Claude Jacobs after he resigned from the office of president. H E R S H E L ! With groans of mis- ery and horror all the biology students embarked upon a new experience — the fetal pig. What an experience, ugli ! ! 112 WE ' RE OFF— The sopho- mores wait for the buses to come speed them off to a day of quiet leisure in New Braun- fels. TOUGH GAME IN THE OLD SALOON— Looks as if these cow pokes have hit a stalemate in that rough game of dominoes. CAN ' T STUDY? But who could during the activi- ties of Western Week? Ronnie Green and Jimmie Biedermann find it hard to hang up their guns for a trig book so, they just laze around the dorm. THE LINE UP — And everyone did just that, about three times, at the Western Bar-b-que. ARE THEY FRIENDLY? These Indi- ans sure seem to be, especially to that poor tired sheriff sitting there. WHAT ' S YOUR BRAND? Intermission at the slern Barn Dance brought much talk and eating. 113 SUNGLASSES, GENTS? Well, I guess anything is ap- propriate for these freshmen at the freshman picnic. But, just who are those sophs on the right? NOW, LET ' S YELL! All of V.C. turned out in front of the Union for the outdoor pep rally before the Del Mar game. CAREER DAY. Here are some of the poor tired souls who agreed to sacrifice a college holiday to help out with the Career Day for surrounding high schools. MR. SNOWMAN. He seemed happiest at the turnout and frolic at the Christmas Dance. 114 SWING YOUR PARTNER— ami tliafs exactly what evcrycine was doing lli, night of the Western Dance. COUNTRY BREAKFAST— Everyone was tired and hungry after the trail ride into town, hut the bacon and eggs were ready and waiting, thanks to Doc Kallus. DESPERADOES? No, looks like just girls from here but, someone locked them up. I wonder what they were sent up for? Maybe spraying perfume on the horses. HIDEOUT FOR JANET. Miss Albrecht seems to be hiding out from that sheriff and posse who made terror in the V.C. territory. AFTER ' EM, GIRLS — The girls entered in the cow milking contest seemed to be having quite a bit of trouble even getting to that cow. 115 OUR LEADER! This picture touches our hearts and funny bone as all of V.C. remembers the hard time Marie Argo had in running after that cow in order to win the cow milking contest. THE SOUTHERN- AIRES — This was the group of Western gents that played music for the Western Barn Dance. RANCHO GRANDE— Cleo McCormich, Jim- my Muska, Carol Saun- ders, David Warzecha, Karen Pierce and Wayne Hanselka seem to be making a night of it. 116 EATING AGAIN— As always all of V.C. is hungry all the time. At least it seems that way when you look at this picture from the Western Bar-b-que. MR. BEARD AT V.C. What a handsome grisly lot! Robert Gaubatz, on the far left, won the bid for the title of Mr. Beard over all these other contestants in the beard growina contest. YEA, MR. WHITMORE! Even the faculty managed to get in on the tail-end of the Raneho Grande. RESTIN ' IN THE SHADE — That afternoon sun just gets a cowpoke down. So, they seemed to settle down with their guns quiet and their jaws free from tobacco to listen to Lonnie Harper and his guitar. GANG FIGHT? NO, just a peaceful lyncliing in front of the Union. SITTING ON THE HAY. And dancing by the camp fire at the Western Bam Dance. THEY GOT AL CAI ' UNE . . . hui, in our Western Jail House? 117 THE COURT OF THE SPRING FORMAL— College Sweetheart, Terri Dale New- man is surrounded by her court of Pirate Rpllc JUST VISITING— Chatter around the punch bowl well was varied but always present during the spring formal.
