Your record as a teacher is unexcelled, and your willingness to help, combined with your patience with our often ridiculous mistakes, has made you a hero in our eyes. For all these reasons, and for your genuine interest in the welfare and happiness of every student, the Bagel staff is proud to dedicate this edit on to you, Mr. Palumbo. 11 Ivliss Vera Brown Year after year, generation after generation, thousands of children have come to know you as a friend. As a teacher, you have imparted a pleasant manner. As a friend, you have fide in you, making us feel you would do and encourage us. kind teacher and knowledge to us in allowed us to con- your best to help We realize that you have devoted your life to helping little children get started in school life. It is during our first years in school that we learn how to work together and get along with others. You are a great credit to the teaching profession. You are a perfect example of what children think a wonderful teacher is. It is for these reasons that we can say very sincerely that we appreciate your kind and generous help. Let us try to speak for all these past generations and ourselves, in thanking you for a lifetime devoted to teaching - Miss Brown 5 mir THE canon? SHIRLEY BRAIWXN . I 75 The yearbook staff sincerely hopes this issue will fullfill its purposes of acting as a lasting souvenir to the graduating seniors, informing the public of the schoo1's curriculum, and providing knowledge for the students. Our goal was to make the first deadline. Get to work , write , 'mount this picture , and so many other cliches dominated the conversation, but the co-operation was tops , and, combined with the fun, we've really had a mar- velous time composing this yearbook. We hope this produc- tion has reflected our enjoyment and will be liked by every- one. 6 HIININISTHIITIU . .- LZ. -A .. , -f , . . - 1,1 -L--..s - 5 s.-' 3, ef -- Av. 11- wr- -wh--1,-1-:A :-'-,w..,..vJ-.r- -wg if--'ir-vm-2 'N .2 -':f 'Q1'c 39' .n1n- -.1.5'- .srl- a-,H .n.L-Pplwz - 'bf . BOWERMAN , ' ff- 'gg-sgggen 1ctor Central School ALTON B. CORBIT, Suvenvlxmc PRINCWAI. Victor, New York Dear Students: A trip to the moon in the near future? Space suits for youngsters instead of Hopalong Cassidy suits? Rocket style space ships and guns that emit hideous sparks? Comic strips that are not comic but give startlingly re- alistic foreboding of things to come? These are but a few of the things that come to mind as one speculates on the theme of this year's yearbook. How rapidly scientific advancement is made! You students of world history can appreciate the hundreds of years of the middle ages in which no progress was made. Yet, in the short span of the first half of this century, man has taken such tre- mendous strides that he now talks in realistic terms of con- quering space in the not too distant future-probably within your lifetime, possibly within mine. One of you reading this letter MAY pilot or design one of these strange crafts. who knows? Perhaps, too, and this is a prayer, one of the students reading this may make a much more significant contribution. A contribution that is sorely needed. He may find a way by which man can learn to live, at peace, with his neighbor in a spirit of Christian fellowship. Because, although man is finding increasingly better ways of conquering his physical environment and consequently shrinking the size of his world. he has yet to come up with the formula teaching him how to love his neighbor. As in every large enterprise, there are men behind the scenes who work quietly and efficiently and many times these people do not receive the praise and thanks they justly deserve. We most sincerely appreciate the work of the Board of Education of Victor Central School. It was an eager group of young space men who ascended the steps into the second story of the Gallup Block. In 19hl we moved to even greater heights both literally and figuratively when we graduated to the new school on the hill. For the next few years our studies seemed to be the same routine over and over, but in the seventh grade the pace quickened as we began to participate in the various activities in our curriculum. Then the storm really started, we became Freshmen. It was finally up to us to elect class officers and we selected Lee Semmler, Presidentg Dirk weigert, Vice-President: Marian Brake, Secretaryg Patricia Bowerman, Treasurer: and Shir- ley Braiman, Student Council representative. During this year we had a tag-day, many movies and we won third prize in the Halloween picture contest. Higher and higher we went. As Sophomores we elected Delores Stemp, Presi- dentg Dick Ryder, Vice-President: Marian Brake, Secretary, Patricia Bowerman, Treasurer: and Robert McCarthy, Student Council representative. Time flew rapidly on. We began our Junior year with a dynamic record sales of stationery and after the most important event of the year, our Junior Prom, we found that we were well on our way to having enough money to take our senior trip to New York City. Our officers this year were Delores Stemp, Presidentg Audrey Torquato, Vice-President: Anne Power, Secretaryg Patricia Bowerman, Treasurerg and Alan Bowerman, Student Council representative. At last our Senior year arrived. Our trip to New York was not far away now but the time went very slowly. The weeks dragged by into months but they were activity-packed months. Our class, headed by Shirley Braiman, Presidentg Alan Bowerman,Vice-Presisent, Patricia Criss, Secretary: Patricia Bowerman, Treasur- erg and Ann Bluhm, Student Council representative broke all magazine sales re- cords. The main events of the year were the WCandlelight Qalln and the senior play 'Our Miss Brooksn. Then the big day arrived and we went to New York. we hope that the classes which follow us will have as much fun and success as we have had in the past. 28 First Row: Fenwick Small, Alan Bowerman, Glenn Popenhusen. Stanley Basketb Aifiai Schantz, Alice Whittaker, Joyce Thleg, Beverly Frederioks, Shirley Braiman. as our Senior year sped on like a Rocket,we sudd- enly became aware that our biggest money making event, the Senior Play, was not toefar away. From our galaxy of talent we chose our best actors to become the milky way players. For our director we chose the best direc- tor of interplanetary plays, Miss Schantz. For our play we chose the sparkling comedy 'Our Miss Brooks'. For anyone but Miss Brooks the job of putting on a Senior play would have been a simple task, but not so with her. The play started out calm enough and it looked as though everything would go all right. But it was too good to last and before the end Hiss Brooks had to deal with a somewhat spoiled girl, Rhonda Allen: a very angry school board president, Mrs. Alleng and a very self eagcered principal, Hr. Wadsworth. To co - plicate matters even more the love bug bit both her and the male lead in the play, Ted Wilder. She fell in love with the athletic director, Hugo Longacre and Ted fell in love with the female lead Jane Drew. Everything worked out in the end and when the final curtain came down it was agreed that 'Our Miss Brooks' was one of the best plays Victor had ever seen. e e e s e eMarian Brake ...Audrey Torquato ...Patricia Criss ......Joyce Thiel ....Fenw1ck Small ......James Mead ......Joyce Power .....Connie Angelo .Patricia Bowerman ...Alice Whittaker ......Dor1s Peglow ...Shirley Braiman ...Beverley Frederick . Under the guidance of our new advisor, Miss Schantz, and the leadership of our Class President, Eileen Hall, we began our main project of selling sta- tionery, which was very successful. A dance held on the Eve of All Saints' Day, or more commonly known as Halloween, also added a nice sum to our treasury. Throughout the year we were able to sell a variety of pop, candy and gum at the home foot- ball and basketball games. Excitement hit a high peak the day our class rings arrived, and our natural talent was discovered when we presented the annual Junior Assembly for our fellow students. Our final project, the Junior Prom, ended an entirely satisfactory year. Under the sure and guiding hand of a new pilot, the band has climbed new heights on the milky way of music. First they rocketed off with a new idea which resulted in the first formation marching band Victor has pro- duced. They next demonstrated their progress with a parade and concert at Hallo- ween. At Christmas time they combined with the chorus to give a concert which was met with resounding approval by the public. They participated in the annual contest festivals thereby increasing their laurels, The extravaganza of the season was unfurled in a glittering spring concert which put a final touch to a busy season. The musicians enter and silently take their places. The conductor taps the stand and a new concert season in the VCS Starbowl is underway. Mr. White and the stringed edition of the stardusters provide the entertainment. As the tones are wafted out on silvery moonbeams, the achieve- ments of the organization appear on a fiery pedestal. The orchestra took its usual share of the honors in the annual contest festival with several showy numbers which featured the ever popular pizzicato style.
