Dr. Carl M. Bair Jr. We of the Senior Class of 1955 feel very fortunate in being the first senior class to graduate under Dr. Bair. Dr. Bair was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and received Elementary Education in South Dakota. He attended New Jersey State Teachers College, Trenton, New Jersey and received his B. S. degree there. He attended the University of Connecticut and was awarded his masters there. He received his Doctor- ate in Education from Harvard Graduate School. Dr. Bair has been ateacher and a coach at Neptune Ridgewood, New Jersey. He was principal of the Littleton, Massachusetts High School. He has been a superintendent in the State Education Depart- ment of Connecticut. It was from this position as Superintendent of Schools in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, that Dr, Bair came to Vestal. During World War II Dr. Bair served in the Submarine Service. He is married and the father of three daughters. Carol, the eldest, is married and is living in New Hampshire, Janet is working as a secretary in a local business firm and Bette is a student in the 10th grade at Vestal. Dr. Bair issued this statement to the class for publication in this book: Few classes in any school are blessed with as many dynamic leaders as our class of '55. It is a class loaded with talent, the will to work, and humor. It's members will strengthen our democracy, our churches, and our business. In short they are wonderful 'kids. ' Frankly, I am going to miss my beloved 'pests. ' Carl M. Bair, Jr.

Kaftan! Em l Working on the many problems confronting a fast-growing school district are these members of our Vestal Central Board of Education. Left to right, seated, Mrs. Muriel Detwiler, Edward McE1ligott, presidentg Eugene Zierdt, Mrs. Lewene Lawhead. Standing, William Yates, F. Duncan Case and Vern Eldredge. Not present when the picture was taken were Perry Baumlin and Dr. Marion P. Emerson. Major problem for school officials is the need for additional classroom space and sites for future expansion. Looking over the sites of two new elementary buildings scheduled for com- pletion this year are Dr. Carl M. Bair, Jr. , supervising prin- cipalg Thomas Seal of the architectural firm of Michael J. D'Angelis, Rochesterg Mr. McE11igott and Mr. Baumlin. 4 The hard work which goes on behind the scenes of any large school district is the assignment of the board of education. Vestal is especially for- tunate in the calibre of its nine-member board which has put in countless hours of tedious work in an effort to provide us with the finest facilities and faculty humanly possible to obtain. Rarely is there credit for these workers. Rare- ly does the community know ofthe immense sacri- fice in time and effort expended by these selfless individuals. So we salute our board for effort above and be- yond the call of duty and award them a special diploma Summa cum laude. H K
