THE SENIOR CLASS OF i948 By Gay Thompson CLASS POEM Within the crystal hour-glass of life which stands The first route, void of hinderance, down hill all the way Upon a gently woven mat of golden strands, At termination a fiery monster waits its prey. The sounds of time llike silken threadsl The latter, quite in contrast, most difficult to scale- descend to close Yet, look! Life's beauty, joy and wealth A warm event our heart well knows. conclude this trail. The walls of learning which sheltered us to date, A wall of truth against the evil road was built Will soon release their hold as we pass By those whose sword of wisdom stabbed us to the hilt. through the gate Our destiny thus planned, extremely plain to see- That has kept us here from worldly things, A life of happiness and wealth can only be. And we shall wander down the lane as Life begins. And now, to those whose knowledge groomed The sunshine dances brightly as we trip along-- us for our ranks The flowers bloom and birds begin their happy song. ln life, our hearts express a crude and simple. . . thanks. Now flitting briskly down the long and winding path, When every incident of life its time is spent- We chance upon a fork which cuts the trail in half. The hour-glass is turned to start a new event.
